After six long years since the Nissan GTR Concept was first unveiled in October 2001, the wait is now only months away, with the public and market debut at the Tokyo Motor show this October. Production is set to commence immediately after its debut with first Japanese deliveries occurring simultaneously throughout the winter. Sales in the U.S. and Canada are set to start in the Spring of 2008.

The GTR is expected to be available in three different model levels. Despite our previous reports of a 4.5 liter V8 engine delivering 450hp, it is now commonly known that it will be a 480hp twin-turbo V6 engine in the standard base GTR as well as the middle level GTR V-Spec. They will be priced at roughly $57,000 and $67,000 respectively. The range topping EVO version with the same VQHRTT engine as the standard and V-Spec models gets a power increase up to 530hp while losing 220 lbs. from the body for an unbelievably inexpensive price of $94,000.

If this is true, it might very well give the Z06 a run for the bang for buck sector, while sporting a decent interior.

IMO the new G35 sedan has a better interior than the 2008 Vette... The GT-R will likely stick to the same styling cues...

If I were to get a high performance sports car that I would drive sparingly then I wouldn't give a flying fvck about the friggin interior.

Yeah, I'm much the same way. If it's a sports car I'm buying, I'm not much of a dash stroker. If it's a luxury car, I may pay more attention to the interior quality.

If anyone here sits inside a real sports car and can pay attention to the interior, you're not driving the car the way it was meant to be driven.

how many ricers will be driving this car compared to a civic?
not many I bet, huge difference between 20k car and 57-67k

anyways I have to say it looks really good, better than I thought and I really, really want one now. I guess I'll have to do some convincing and hope that I can manage one within a couple years.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...say it ain't true....

At least one company is still continuing with the mighty Inline 6 and has no plans of ever getting rid of it....Ford Australia...

But back to the topic at hand, the RB26DETT is a ledgendary power plant (an thankfully reasonably common in Australia...thank you Nissan for the local release of the R32 and R33 skylines), it's just a pity that Nissan didn't want to give a few more years worth of use, it was a proven and very powerful engine..and a rev monster to boot.

I personally don't care for G35 interior and think it's ugly but looks are subjective. What can't be argued are the performance numbers. Both cars are smoking in this category.

So do you think the Corvette interior is not ugly?

I agree, both cars are amazing performers.
I'm more concerned about the cup holders.

Either way who wants to spend over 20k for a ricer?

You never fail to disappoint as usual with your hate/ignorance for anything that can take corners or is Japanese...

First give me a definition of rice, then explain to me what exactly is "rice" in the GT-R?

I don't know about you, but the mustang / camaro mullet crowd has a lot more social stigma than the ricer crowd. SVTCobra thinks any asian car = rice.

Also like any car models...those $xx,xxx / xx hp cost points usually come with other items like better electronics, suspension, brakes, etc. Plus exclusivity. Most of the wealthy can take some beater mustang and make it a 9 sec car, probably a 10-11 sec car and still have it streetable. However; it's still the same car they are seeing at every stop they make.

To others above, the are quite a few RWD japanese cars.

I was talking about the Corvette, last time I checked, there is thousands of them being daily driven. I consider it a high performance car, but when it is offered with an automatic transmission it kind of loses that appeal and needs to have an interior that is a bit better.

so you'd turn down a vehicle offered with DSG/SMG/etc?

I'm just a state away. Ill race either of them...Send them crying to their mom because their ricer got beat by a crappy Mustang

BTW a Supra is a dyno queen. Only car to make 1000+ hp and can't run any quicker than 11's.......

And as Naustica said, don't throw your friends into an E-race..... Don't be that friend that leans out the window taunting other drivers because you don't have a "race" car of your own......

Auto is faster than manual 9/10 for amateur drivers at the track whether it be 1/4 mile or track course. It's given that most manual drivers can't shift really well and that lack of consistency is what causes slower times. Sure you can make a case manual is more fun to drive and you feel connected to the road but the sad fact is auto will beat manual majority of the times in the hands of amateur. Check out the fastest 1/4 mile times posted for C6 at the Corvetteforum. The fastest one is 6-speed paddle shift automatic and there are more autos with faster times than manual on that list.

If I owned the car, the reason in getting a manual is to challenge myself and to get better at it and have more fun than an automatic at the same time. I could care less about a tenth of a second.

esp since at the upper high end many are not offering 'true manuals'.

The latest crop of race automatics has been actually turning better times than those rowing the gears themselves.

Still I do like the involvement a clutch and stick gives in driving.

WTF? I saw a guy that owned both a GS3/400 something and a supra turn 10's on the tires they drove to the track with here at Moroso Florida.

I don't think he had near 1000hp in either car. He did put the Supra into the canal on the side of the track after hitting a patch of antifreeze a previous car left on the track after blowing it's engine.

Stumps, the VQ35 is pretty much just as renowned as the RB26 was. Trust me, you're not getting a poor trade-off switching from the ol' RB26DETT to the VQ35HRTT.. it would've been more amusing if they used the VQ35DETT though .

I don't expect it to sell that well, even though it's getting a ton of hype. You need to realize that the vast majority of hype is coming from the 15-22 year old crowd, and hardly any of them are in the market to buy a brand new $57,000-$94,000 car.

There's a reason why Civics/Neons/Scions sell so well among that crowd- they're practical cars that they can actually afford.
