'Nixon, Graham anti-Semitism on tape'

Oh my God!!!! I cannot believe Russ and I agree on something for once. Hehehe! I think people should get over it, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't talk about it from a historical point of view.

From the documentaries I have read or listened to about Nixon, he was not quite sound 100% it seems to me. He did or said some odd things, so I did not have a high expectation of him.

I second that, JohnnyReb. I think human nature is prejudiced in many ways. Every single individual has some kind of prejudice, for anyone who tries to deny it is simply denying a fact of one's existence. I don't therefore hold such against people except when it is taken to extremity to hinder one from success in life and the pursuit of happiness.

Everybody has some degree of prejudice. But in a superficial society where ignorance abounds that prejudice can have far reaching consequences. Our country has only been approaching living up to the standards enunciated in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution over the past 40 years or so. Before and to a certain extent afterwards . . . the Jew has to be better b/c some say he will make it b/c of his Jew contacts "and they stick together" . . . the black has to be better b/c some say she's there b/c of a quota not aptitude . . . why's the woman here anyway . . . she should be home cooking dinner. These concepts pre-date our nationhood . . . have been passed from father/mother to son/daughter. And as long as we pretend it doesn't matter ignorance will live long and prosper.

In my eyes Nixon is still a good President and history will hold him to a higher degree of esteem than Carter, GHWB, Clinton, or 'Shrub'. I'm not excusing him, just saying the man is not the sum of his negatives anymoreso than LBJ or Kennedy.

Billy Graham has affected many lives for the better. So he doesn't like Negroes or Semites . . . God will be his judge. At least he keeps it on the DL and doesn't contend heaven is filled with GOP-voting, gun-toting Christians.

Rev Al Sharpton is a blatant race-baiter, along with Rev Jesse Jackson, and Minister Farrakahn. But they've positively changed many peoples lives. Guess they're human . . . flaws and all. But those are some pretty big blotches.

I have the same degree of disdain for black Democrats as black Republicans . . . oh yeah and the purple ones piss me off, too.

Unlike yourself, I have reasons that can be articulated for my differences with them. Unlike yourself, I do not just blame it on Human Nature or some other theory that lamely attempts to explain why one group persecutes another.

Ever see the very young experience a different race's young? Hate is learned....and as in Billy Graham's case evidently, unlearned. Can you say that about Sharpton? Farrakan? Jackson?

As for Nixon's statements....once again we see a Liberal take quotes out of context and apply today's moral code to events that happened in the past. If we do that as a habbit we will never have anything good to say about anyone...ever...

Probably the intent was that the he disagrees with some blacks of either party, the point being that their position, view or actions, not their party, is the determining factor, not that he dislakes them all.

Ahem - this is not a response I would have expected to see. While I agree that most people say things in private they would not want aired publicly, I think anyone who makes private statements about, for example, the sinister Jewish plot to control the media is a paranoid anti-Semite, and I for one can say unequivocally I have never made any categorically racist statements, much less any as bizarre as this. I think these quotes by Graham and Nixon are quite revealing, and, at least as they pertain to Graham, sad. In any event I applaud your candor, though I frankly think a person who makes "negative comments about a number of people groups in [his] life, including Jews" is more than likely a racist at heart.

Racism.....this is something I have wrestled with over the years. I find myself running into people who, sadly, fulfill the appropriate negative stereotype, and sometimes stir some very primal feeling from deep within.

Am I a racist? I thought I probably was for a long time, especially where blacks are concerned. But then I found that there were those blacks whom I cared a great deal about, and others that I did not know but held great respect for. I obviously wasn't racist, so much as held great animosity certain types of people. In my sig you will see the definition of classist. I think that I am probably more of a classist than a racist, but I do often wonder why those of whom I consider as low rent tend to be in certain ethnic groups. Probably flawed personal perception.

I don't know. I struggle with this daily.

I actually don't know much about Jews. What few comments I have made have been more along the penny-pinching variety. I have never understood the hatred people have for Jews. My Lord was born a Jew.

Yawn. So a politician and a televangelist with a bad hair-do were standing on a corner....ok I forget the joke, but there's one somewhere.

Nixon was an asshole, not nearly as much of a notorious asshole as LBJ. Graham, nothing about our self-appointed 'religious' leaders ever surprises me; child molestation, corruption, racism, homosexuality...you name it.

Come to think of it, I cannot think of a single politician or religious leader in my life-time who I would trust to watch my kids for the afternoon or leave with my wife unsupervised for three minutes. God Bless America.
