hey cut the guy some slack for those tapes.....he was an a-hole for some other reasons...frm what analysts say on tv...i believe it was just the way of life then....yes i have to agree that some of the stuff i heard frm those tapes on tv were disturbing. disturbing because as the president of the united states , he seemed to have little compassion ...

I wonder if any of us would pass muster if we had some private conversations recorded and opened to the world.

I have made negative comments about a number of people groups in my life, including Jews. They were mostly gross generalizations, but with a basis in fact.

I'd like to hear from anyone out there who has made it past 40 without doing so.

Nixon was crazy, he had some complex or something with the kennedy's. To bad really he did have the talent and intellect to be a good President.

The Billy Graham thing is surprising but not shocking, I've heard priest and nuns talk about things with a certain bias, I mean they are just regular people who become priest or nuns.

Ahem - this is not a response I would have expected to see. While I agree that most people say things in private they would not want aired publicly, I think anyone who makes private statements about, for example, the sinister Jewish plot to control the media is a paranoid anti-Semite, and I for one can say unequivocally I have never made any categorically racist statements, much less any as bizarre as this. I think these quotes by Graham and Nixon are quite revealing, and, at least as they pertain to Graham, sad. In any event I applaud your candor, though I frankly think a person who makes "negative comments about a number of people groups in [his] life, including Jews" is more than likely a racist at heart.

I am far from perfect, and have said many things I am not proud of - that said, I have never made any categorically racist comments, and I do feel those kinds of remarks bespeak a racist mind.

Do you seriously feel it is not negative to say that Jews have a "stranglehold" on the American media, and that "this stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain"? I do.

No such thing as a "private conversation" unless you are talking to yourself (which I think you do a lot).

Any words spoken to another person automatically becomes "public information" unless the listener signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Did poor ol' Billy sign one? Nope!!

Hmmmm . . . Obviously that is a totally different question. The fact that these remarks were released is a by-product of the fact that Nixon taped everything that happened in the Oval Office, and the tapes are now in the public domain.

Honestly I do think these conversations are relevant and fair game to be released to the public - I think the public deserves to know if the President of the United States calls an entire class of people an "irreligious, atheistic, immoral bunch of bastards." I also think it is relevant that a powerful and influential religious leader is making anti-Semitic remarks. I do not necessarily think these comments make either Nixon or Graham evil people, but I think they are interesting and, as they pertain to Graham, very disappointing.
