This is the first time I've actually laughed out loud at a comment here in a while.

As for the OP, when I was 19 I was the news director at a small radio farm in the middle of nowhere in Indiana. The owner's wife called a meeting and wanted to know our plans if the radio station got hit with a nuclear bomb. I asked if she meant Indianapolis (we were about two hours south), but she said that she meant the station itself. She claimed "they" will want to take out communications facilities with the first strike.

So I'll tell you the same thing I told her - my plan if I get hit with a nuclear weapon is to turn into a bunch of radioactive particles.

If I somehow survived your scenario, which given where I live, I wouldn't, I guess I'd try and head down to the Gulf Coast where I've got family with enough land to support us all, assuming they aren't also dead.

Realistically though, 3000 nukes would kill the entire planet and you don't have four hours, you have under one hour.

Actually an estimated 100-300 nukes would destroy all humanity, so in this scenario there is ten times that number raining down on just the U.S. There is no leaving for any where else or any chance of survival.
