We just have to have cover for our real intentions both from the rest of the world and our own citizens who can't be trusted to know what's best for them, but will readily buy any lie that's patriotic sounding.

As opposed to the leftist that will buy any conspiracy theory that's not even good enough to make it into the Enquirer.
Where did you get that from? A Noam Chomsky book?

You've never heard of PNAC have you??

More like the redheaded step child becomes old news behind the Shuttle and Iraq so rattles the sabre to get some attention again.

this is maybe not a reliable source, but in any case, it claims the clinton administration threatened north korea with a nuclear strike if they didn't stop producing plutonium....

"Clinton:
* In 1994, former Defense Secretary William Perry threatened to launch a nuclear strike against
North Korea if it continued to work on producing plutonium (VC Star, Oct 18 2002).
* Administration policies facilitated the export of advanced (miniaturized) nuclear weapons
technology to China.
"

http://home1.gte.net/lbalders/nuclear.htm

references to "VC Star" Oct 18 2002 are relatively nonexistant on google...

but, what would people think if they heard bush did the same?

Yeah, but we better attack Iraq first.

Sure, lets stop what we are doing and move all the troops from Iraq to NK. Once we do that I am sure Iraq will starting being a little B!tch again and we can start the cycle over.

Actually, there are reports that military personnel that are being called up are being issued both desert and jungle fatigues, and there arent any jungles in Iraq...

So do you believe that we have NOT made a case for military action? What more do you need to know? I guess I do not understand, cause the speech I head described a regime run by a psychotic mad-man who wants to destroy the world in the worst way he can.

I wouldnt want him for a neighbor... would you?

N Korea knows we have nuclear submarines within range which could turn their entire country into a crater if they chose to attack US warships with Nukes. It's not balls of steal, I think their just insane.

I think its time to remind people that we are the most powerful nation in the world...if we beat the sh!t out of iraq and NK at the same time, maybe all these little pu$$y countries will stop stepping on our toes.

thats what we thought when we bombed Japan. Did it work? No.

If we want to stop other countries from trying to get their hands on WMD, we have to do so by example, not by instilling fear in others. Human beings are the same, wherever we are, lets not forget that everyone has ego's, everyone has a desire for liberty, and everyone wants to be treated with mutual respect. Threatening countries is not the way to go about doing things, it will never lead to world peace, nor will it stop "little pu$$y countries... [from] stepping on our toes."

Whoa! Living in a pretty idealistic pie-in-the-sky world there, aren't you? You think Saddam, Mullah Omar, bin Laden, and Kim Jong Il all have desires for liberty and mutual respect? Should we disarm, and show them by example that the world is a wonderful place?

the people you named are the most extreme examples. i'm talking about the common man, not extremists.

If the common man had any control over how their country is run, do you think there would be such problems? Instead we have mad dictators running these countries using fear and death. Too bad your idealistic utopia of a world where everyone can sit down and talk does not work. Some foreign government simply do not give a crap to aide us or negotiate with us. Which leaves us with two choices: use force or ignore the problem. You tell me which one is the right choice.

I'm not asking anyone to sit down and talk. And I do realize that 'mad dictators' do run the show. And thats the point. A very small handful of the people are the ones in the wrong, so why launch a full fledged war? The people that will suffer will be the very people that have been at the receiving end of the 'fear and death' that you said. I'm of the opinion that not all wars are fought on a battlefield. There are probably other ways of handling the situation, that wont' result in large amounts of civilian casualties.

Let's say the US tells the world they have a new weapon again, and China, Russia, and a few others all positioning their weapons and soldiers at the US' borders, threatening to attack if the US does not immediately destroy all of its weapons. Do you think the US would immediately comply? Why do you presume NK will just because Bush is being anal as usual?

its called a pre-emptive strike.

North Korea is making a political point. "America is not the only country that reserves the right to pre-emptive strike"
of course they know that the U.S. can turn their country into barren land void of life with either conventional or nuclear weapons.

Yak.

Whelp... this is one of those things where there seems to be another side that is not really being reported.

Right now, the US is unhappy that the North has started up nuclear reactor(s). The US has said that it may, *ahem* beef up forces in the area as a 'deterrent'. NK says that if the US does that, it can only mean the US is meaning to strike NK pre-emptively. (As the US has tossed aside what they had at least said publically was a no pre-emptive war thing... :frown: ) Thus, NK said it would, "strike first", in that situation.

Now, with that synopsis done.. (Edit: Wanted to clarify some stuff...) ABB of Switzerland / US sold, "equipment and services for two nuclear power stations at Kumho, on the east coast of North Korea." to NK in 2000/2001.. *Ahem* *Cough, cough* On the board of directors of the company that sold them the nuclear stuff / (Laset edit!) supplies for their building project was no less than (Edit: been a long day already... =)) Donald Rumsfeld. If the US / Switzerland sells them nuclear reactor stuff, after peace talks have broken down, and then seemingly tells them only to look at it, well... And then the US plays a pretty major role in getting rid of any further peace talks... I don't know.

I haven't the answer to any of this, but thought I might toss some facts in here.... (Don't know if they've been posted before, though. :\)

Anywho, have a good day.

Some sources so we know what the hell you're talking about would be good.

The US didn't "sell" a nuclear reactor to NK in 2000/2001. The US agreed several years ago in the early 90's to build two light water nuclear reactors for NK in exchange for their shutting down their plutonium producing reactors.
