Be advised that this *IS NOT* a nation-wide sales circular ! ! ! ! :Q :Q :Q :Q

For those of you that *do* have the Memorex 100-pack 80-min 32x or 40x CD-Rs on sale this week, the disks may be Taiyo Yudens (see my prior post). Memorex has begun using Taiyo Yudens again for its 32x, 40x, and audio CDR media due to quality of media issues at these higher speeds.

Again, Be advised that Office Max has recently changed to what I'll call "rolling regional sales circulars"....

- huh????

It appears that Office Max is testing-out a new regional-based sales circular strategy, in which they generate a series of sales items that are rotated into different regional markets over a set period of time. For example, Office Max generates four (4) "sales" circulars, then it randomly rotates these four (4) "circulars" between their various regions, over a four (4) week period. Basically, not every store has the same sales circular during the same 7-day sales period. This new sales strategy *could* be an even hotter deal for those living near two (2) different "regions", where essentially you would have TWO (2) different sales to "work with", with a little additional effort (ie. driving a little farther). But it would/will be a bigger hassle for many, in that you may be "off on a wild goose chase" after an item that is not on-sale in your region, or worse yet, you pre-purchase an item to price-match the following week - and the "sale" doesn't happen before your price-match window expires. Thus, you're stuck with the item you had planned on price-matching, at the higher price - damn pinhead Harvard MBAs ! ! ! ! :|

So, how do you find-out if the items is in the sales circular for your area/region?

1. Go to the Orifice Max website (pun intented!)

2. About three-fourths down the right-hand side of the splash-page, click on the hotlink "In-Store Features" in the box labeled "Special Offers" (which ironically brings-up a page labeled "In-Store Specials")

3. Click on the hotlink for your State (Mississippi in this example)

4. Click on the nearest store location, and viola - there's the ad! (Gulfport Mississippi in this example)

Note how the Mississippi region does not have the Memorex CD-R deal (we had it last week ). What we get this week, are crappy - no make that shitty - Hi-Val 100-pack of 74-min that are free after a $30.00 mail-in rebate - from Hi-Val no less!!!! (page 1) (damn there must be a lot of "rubes" out there...). The $19.99 after rebate Cendyne 32/12/40 burner in the circular above, is $29.99 after rebate here in Mississippi - so much for the Cendyne price match at Staples!!!! (page 8).

So how this will affect Orifice Max deals remains to be seen, but the above scenario is not too hard to envision if all the major computer/office supply stores start adapting this rolling-regional-sales-circulars strategy....

edit - why can't I finish one damn post without a friggin' html error, grrrr......

Yes, I bought the best Data 56K modem Saturday based on the fact I saw it here for $29 marked down to $10. Couldn't wait til Sunday as my day was booked, and I was going to price match when convenient. Now in my circular I see that's not the case so I'll be returning it tomorrow.

And just when I "thought" I had it figured out.....

last week I posted a deal on Memorex 100-pack 80-min CDRs in my area (Gulfport Mississippi area), but many reported not have this same item on sale until this week ([L=Fatwallet thread) ([L=Anandtech thread][/L]).

Well, I'm in Jackson Mississippi this afternoon and stop-in at Office Max, just to see if they might have the Cendyne 32/10/40 deal for $19.99 - not $29.99 like the Gulfport circular. Well guess what, the had the same damn sales circular that Gulfport and Tupelo had last week!

[L=Jackson Mississippi circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BB&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L]
http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BB&BV_UseBVCookie=yes

[L=Gulfport Mississippi circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BA&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L]
http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BA&BV_UseBVCookie=yes

[L=Tupelo Mississippi circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BA&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L]
http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=CA&BV_UseBVCookie=yes

So why did I include the URL address for these circulars, as plain text???? So everyone can see what defines which sales circular your local Office Max will get on any given week. Note how the URL for the Gulfport circular (which had the Memorex CDR sale last week) has BA following the jsp coding "mkt=" , the URL for the Tupelo circular has (which also had the Memorex sale last week) has CA following the jsp coding "mkt=" , and the URL for the Jackson circular has (which has the Memorex sale this week) has BB following the jsp coding "mkt=" !

Gulfport (and Tupelo) which had the sales circular with the Memroex sale first, have their market defined by A as the second letter following the "mkt=" coding, and Jackson which had the sales circular with the Memroex sale second, have their market defined by B as the second letter. So I "poked" around and guess what I found????

The Alameda California market has the coding AD, which would represent the "fourth" sales circular. And you know what? It looks like they have the exact same sales circular, that Tueplo had the week of 30 June-06 July (I should still have this ad, I'll verify this later today) - the exact same damn ad - four weeks later!!!!

http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=AD&BV_UseBVCookie=yes

DOES ANYONE SEE THE BEAUTY IN THIS????

Oh, and one last "minor" observation....

Last weeks Gulfport sales circular has the following "code" at the end of the last line, on the bottom of the next to last page - BTS=1A. Jackson Mississipi - their current sales circular has the code "BTS=1B". Well I'll be damn...., those pinhead Harvard MBAs don't look so smart, after all....

So, let's see if I'm right - please post the "BTS=xx" code from your local store, as well as if you have the following CDR "special" this week, in your comments below....

[L="A" circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BA&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L] - Hi-Val 100-pack 74-min CDR free after $9.99 instant rebate and $30.00 mail-in rebate

[L="B" circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BB&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L] - Memorex 100-pack 80-min CDR $9.99 after $20.00 instant rebate and $10.00 mail-in rebate

[L="C" circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?
mkt=BC&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L] - Hi-Val 50-pack 80-min CDR free after $1.99 instant rebate (generous) and $10.00 manufacturer's mail-in rebate and $5.00 Office Max mail-in rebate

[L="D" circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BD&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L] - Hi-Val 50-pack 80-min CDR free after $1.99 instant rebate (generous) and $10.00 manufacturer's mail-in rebate and $5.00 Office Max mail-in rebate

[L="E" circular]http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrints.jsp?mkt=BE&BV_UseBVCookie=yes[/L] - Hi-Val 50-pack 80-min CDR free after $1.99 instant rebate (generous) and $10.00 manufacturer's mail-in rebate and $5.00 Office Max mail-in rebate

Looks like the last three (3) markets have the same ads???

TO BE CONTINUED . . . . !

Hi K-squared,

I really appreciate your research on this OfficeMax "scam". Hope you can crack the code so we can figure out which sale will come to our own area in advance.
