I'm fine with that personally. There is absolutely nothing that two 670's won't handle for at least another year. It doesn't matter anyway since everyone will be upgrading to a $900 Titan (or two) pretty soon.

I hate stagnation, I'm definitely not fine with it. And I don't understand people who are. No one forces you to buy new stuff, but that doesn't mean that all welcome a slowdown in progress.

There are a lot of possible reasons, assuming this is accurate.

It could be financially driven. It costs a lot of money to develop new processors. 12mos., or less, isn't a lot of time to recoup the investment. Especially when the market is soft. Look at how long Intel manufactures a CPU model before it's EOL'd. GPU's don't have that luxury.

It could be the new cards simply aren't ready yet. nVidia rarely rushes their cards to market and I think AMD would rather stand pat with their current lineup against nVidia's as long as they can rather than release something that's 15%-20% slower than it's potential, like Tahiti was, for example.

It could be TSMC, as has been mentioned. Although if they just couldn't manufacture the chips and they were ready, I think AMD and/or nVidia would be complaining.

Apple using up all, or a lot of, the available 28nm wafers would also effect the current models availability. I don't think that's the issue.

I'm not that surprised. Progress will be slow as long as we're stuck with 8 year console generations

Even if the rumour is not true, it is hardly surprising since it was / is bound to happen sometime: node progress is slowing down and unless NV/AMD intend to design three generations per node this was bound to happen sometime. Despite all the denial I think not even Intel will be able to afford to continue Tick-Tock for much longer and will have to change: Tick-tock-tock or similar.

Considering AMD rebranded its entire HD7xxx line to HD8xxx I wouldnt be surprised.

are you trolling? 'cause from you i expect to be better than that...
anyway, no they didn't. that was only for some OEM cards and mobile GPUs, and as far as we know (or care) it's completely marginal in effect.

I guess they can't really turn out something better on the 28nm process technology. Except for the Titan.

Preface: Can someone define Q4 in this context? Q4 in business terms doesn't always match the calendar year, particularly for firms that produce silicon.

That said -- assuming the worst in terms of delay; I really don't want this rumor to be true. I know many desktop enthusiasts like doing a once per year refresh, and with Haswell being released in June -- what a perfect time frame for a new CPU and GPU. This is precisely what I will do, assuming I don't get titan (i'm really hoping nvidia allows custom titan designs)

I'm crossing my fingers that this is not true. Am I crazy in thinking that the release of haswell will spur a lot of users to buy a new GPU as well?

This is unsurprising. NV is making money hand over fist thanks to their newfound "small die" strategy, I can't imagine they're in a rush to move this generation along when so many people are still running HD5000/GTX400 cards.

If only AMD had priced up to NV rather than forcing NV to come down to them during their small die phase, they might not be in the position that they are in today. I am sure this is not a popular sentiment.

At least they'll hit the shelves around the the time the new consoles are released which i hope would spur an onslaught of new demanding games

please stop trolling.

What are you upset about? You can't even buy these cards if you wanted to. They'd go into pre-built computers only. And those fools get what they deserve.

wow, same with nvidia. Surprised you never mentioned that. :whiste:

Oh and you forgot to add this link in your post as well.

Its you who seem to have an issue. Calling people things and being all emotional.

I am simply saying it doesnt look like any company will come out with anything new, besides the possible GK110.

Same applies for you. Seems you get too easily "hit" as well.

Both of you have done nothing but derailing the thread into the usual result.

So in short, 2013 seems to be a stagnant graphics year for discrete cards.

Your posts can be harsh, since they are 99% negative and never without a glimpse of hope.

And yes I agree with this year being stagnant in graphics, AMD CPU. At least we can look forward to Haswell.

It doesnt help to sugarcoat it, if its not gonna materialize or fall short of expectations.

If both companies delays it enough, then we might see a straight jump to 20nm GPUs. 2013/Q4 is already there basically (Excluding TSMC delays). But that leaves the Apple and Qualcomm questions to be asked. Since they gonna try take as much they can of TSMCs 20nm wafers.

But I do worry that we gonna see 3 or 4 year cycles now instead of 2 year for nodes. And the same amount of products per node still apply.

We can probably thank AMD and the Mobile market for this.

Speaking as a Mac fan, this will delay the next generation of iMacs and 15" retina MacBook Pros. The Mac mini (assuming it keeps all integrated graphics) will most likely be quietly updated.
