Hi-
Running an Asus P4P800 MB with P4 3.2, ran fine last night. Turned this on this AM, no boot, no BIOS screen-nothing. Attempted to boot from WinXP disc-no luck, from Asus installation disc-nothing. I reset the CMOS, nothing.

Ideas? What next? Help!

PSU might have gone bad. Open the system and see if the fans are even running. If they are, you might want to unplug the system to see if the PSU will reset itself. Otherwise you will need to try another PSU. Or better yet, open the system, turn it on and let us know what is happening. Are the system and cpu fans running? Is there a beeping sound? Are the hdd's running?, etc. . . .

PSU is OK-fans are on-all case fans & CPU fans. Case lights on. HD's seem to be spinning up.

No BIOS beep at all. BIOS does not seem to be loading.

Check your RAM and Video Card if they are inserted oddly or not snuggly fit. One of the edges may be popping out.

Also try taking out one stick of ram and booting up to see if things clear up. Swap them both and try again.

Worse case scenario your mobo is dead. I don't think anything else should be wrong, since everything else seems to power on right? Getting beeps is a good sign, because that means at least you know something isn't right with something else besides the mobo/psu.

OK-I briefly tried reseating the RAM and HD connectors already, but the system should boot into BIOS without HDs, right? I'll try pulling a stick of RAM and trying that-attempted to run Memtestx86 from a floppy at boot, didn't run. I think the fact that I am not getting into BIOS and no beeps is ominous.

Wonder what the warranty on Asus MBs is.

I agree. I've seen machines power up but do nothing at all when no RAM or bad RAM is present. The monitor shouldn't even come on.

I'd also try powering off, disconnect from all power sources and hold the power button in for 5-10 seconds to completely drain the system of all electric charge. Then plug it back in and give it a shot.

One question...is there any flashing on the HDD activity LED? If so the problem may simply be bad graphics.

Sounds like a dead cpu to me,no beep codes can only be 2 things. dead board or dead cpu.

What power supply are you using? The reason I ask is that just because a fan is working, it does not mean that your power supply is ok.

OK-I have:

Replaced and switched around RAM
Replaced video card with different card
Reseated all HD power & connection cables

Running Thermaltake PurePower 480 watt PS, no problems with it.

Can hear HDs spinning up at power-on

Only thing I haven't done yet is replace the processor.

Still no Beeps, no BIOS screen ack

OK, one last shot and the mobo can either be confirmed dead or not. Dismount the mobo from the case (place on top of a card board or plastic in close proximity of the case so you can still connect it to the PSU) remove all add in cards except for the video card. Insert a known working ram. Connect a mouse and KB. Reconnect power connector to mobo and also the case PS connector. Power up and you should at least see the bios. If you do not see the bios, power down and dismount cpu and remount again. Power again. Still no bios? Dead mobo or CPU. Try a known working CPU and if it still doesn't boot to bios, mobo definitely dead!

Yeah-that's the next step-I like to use plastic over cardboard-hehe, not the conducting plastic that the MB comes in. Just a huge pain in the butt to get it all out of the case after all the cables have been arranged so nicely

Will let ya know what happens.

At least the Asus board has a 3-year warranty-if I can remember where I got it and find the receipt!

Thanks again everyone!
