no boot?

i recently bought a intel dq963fz motherboard i hooked everything up and all that turns on is the cpu fan it won't boot .i'v e tried clearing the cmos tacking out the battery and waiting 1 min.but no boot any ideas?

CPU fan comes on...so there is electricity, and some of it is going through the power supply.

Speaking of which: type/name/wattage of power supply?

Type/name of motherboard? That will give us the socket, and, general age or era of the thing.

CPU? RAM? Video?

Are parts all new? Where did you get them?

well, those parts may be "new" in a box, but, they are from 2006 or so. So: they manner in which the parts have been stored for the past five or six years may be an issue. Humidity can damage motherboards, and, capacitors can go bad over time, even if not being used.

That boards uses DDR2 memory: are you sure that the memory is functional?

Did the thermal interface material on the cooling fan/cpu fan harden? Did you use Arctic Silver 5 or some equivalent, freshly applied?

Was there an old CR2032 battery installed in the board? Is it still there? Did it leak?

Do the caps on the board look OK?

Name brand and model number of the DDR2 memory?

I am not sure what you paid for the gear, but, newer gear at the low end can be had very cheaply--can you return these archeological relics?

Idea, and I do not mean to sound harsh: return that kit ASAP, if you can.

There are lots of great deals on basic home machines that will be more reliable, more energy efficient, and able to run up to date software.

HP/Dell/etc: At the low end, they have economies of scale, and you can find a good system at a great price.

If the on board Intel graphics from 2006 were going to satisfy your needs, any system with basic graphics today will be more than adequate for you.
