I can't really choose one best for all times album. Even if I chose a few, those selections might be different tomorrow. But, eh, I'll play along, why not?

It could be this:

But, for a number of disparate reasons, it might have to be the White Album. No one song might make my top ten songs of all time, but the lyrical range throughout this double album was impressive indeed. Through all four sides, there's not one dud.

My freshman year in college. My first enduring g/f. My first exposure to a really good sound system, which was my roommate's. The white album came out right before Christmas. It was first only available in NYC. The guy who lived below me, Bob Hay, took the train up to NYC to buy it.

Then (almost) everyone went home for Christmas break. No classes. Bob lent me the album before he left. My g/f stayed. But my roommate left, leaving her and I with a room, a sound system, two weeks alone, and the newly minted White Album.

The classic trifecta: Sex, drugs (weed) and rock 'n roll! :awe:

It was bliss. :wub:

The problem is over a course of a lifetime, anyone who actually likes music is going to have a difficult time narrowing down everything they have liked into one choice. Even down to 3 is pretty damn hard because usually it comes down to current mood. It would be much easier for someone who is young or really isn't into music.

I think for a lot of people, the album where you "discovered" a band tends to be your favorite, even if it might not technically be the best album that band has. That seems to be the case for Rush fans, at least it is for the few that I know.

Yeah that's true. I have an affinity for Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark" but I know it is not close to their technically best album.

As far as Rush goes I tend to cherry pick the songs I like off of their many albums but "Moving Pictures" is the only one where I like every song on the album from top to bottom.
