have one IDE drive and one SATA raptor
but all SFF that i have seen so far like biostar, and all shuttles(those with NF4 and xpress chipset) only have one ata 133
but i need two....one for the hd and one for the dvd burner

damn i feel like such a noob
i haven't done SFF/mATX related builds yet

im just to the plethora of connections offered by ATX mobo and even then i haven't touched sata drives...been using nothing ide so far

Well, the Biostar IDeq 330p at Newegg has the nForce4 chipset and 2xATA and 2xSATA ports, if that is what you are looking for.

I take it you plan on burning from the IDE hard drive not the SATA drive? If you normally would burn from the SATA drive, then it shouldn't really matter if the second ATA hard drive and the burner are on 1 IDE channel.

edit: Otherwise, your other option is to do something like the Aspire X-Qpack case, or the micro-atx case of your choice and then add the micro-atx motherboard of your choice. But I think that the choices of motherboards are more limited here.

Can you use a SATA/ATA converter? Will it fit in a SFF? I am sorta planning on trying that with mine.

Um... I think you are misunderstanding something. Yes, the SN25P has (1) ATA 133 Header, but a header can hold 2 drives, one on master and one on slave. Also, the SN25P have 4 SATA connectors thus you can put 2 IDE devices and 4 SATA devices (minus you can't fit that many components in) but you can theorically hook all those devices up.

ohhh gotcha. having setup HD's that way in the regular comp i had a feeling that was possible but i wasn't sure with the SFF if there was something different or not.

i was thinking of going with the ideq but i read a lot of reviews and all of them say that compared to the sn25p the ideq is pretty bad. the only thing i have a problem with is the pci-e x1 instead of a pci as i wanted to throw in a tv tuner in the sn25p. oh well, i guess its either the sn25p for me(and wait for a pci-e 1x tv tuner) or ill have to build a matx based comp w/ the aspire case.

as for the floppy drive, i do have a spare one so ill just use it for the windows install and then take it out or something.

Here's what I would personally do in your situation. If you really can't wait for a tv tuner card and can spare some cpu to encode/decode the signals then consider buying an ATi All-In-Wonder. As for the floppy drive, it really is the past, Nero and any other burning software can easily burn bootable CD's and CD-R's are very cheap these days. Also, if you do not feel like wasting a CD, the SN25P can set a flash drive for first boot so you can simply copy it there and boot it off the flash drive. Regarding Windows, if you do not have Windows XP, I guess you would need a floppy drive, otherwise WinXP's CD is bootable.

i checked them out but none of them have socket 939 and those soltek mania cases are too retro. im not really into that look since im going for something more clean cut and classy. but thanks for the suggestion. thanks to all of you guys for helping me out.

given my current living condition, i can go without the tv tuner for about a year or so. and an all-in-wonder card is a great idea and once that i was considering but the problem is that so far, i haven't seen a lot of high end(ex. x800xl) pci-e cards that offer a tv tuner built in. the only pci-e all in wonder i have seen is an x600 the last time i checked. if they did have an all-in-wonder solutino then even if it was a dual slot card, it wouldn't matter becuse then id have everything id want in my system. i guess my best bet is to just go for something like the x800xl with single slot cooling solution and hope that within a year they come out with a pci-e 1x tv tuner(i really really hope they do) *shakes fist at the forces that be*

You would probably want to slipstream SP2 into your windows XP installer. That way you dont need a floppy for the SATA drivers.

Not sure if it is a problem with all systems. But on a recent job SATA and ATA wern't playing well 2 gether when trying to use one of each Hdd. Just my 2 cents

Cant you just get an ATA133 PCI Card or find an SFF with an older Intel Chipset? Why is a 915 series chipset so valuable?
