Well, it uses flash memory. I'd bet on 6 and maybe 8gb capacitates within a year but not much more. Although, hopefully this can drive the prices of flash memory down as production increased.

There are advantages to having a smaller capacity as it forces you to cycle your music. The music selection on my 20GB Zen is pretty stale at this point. Also, this should be a lot more durable than a hard-drive based player.

According to the ThinkSecret article the 4GB flash chips are sold out till the end of the year. And AFAIK no 8GB chips exist. Not that it's that hard to add more capacity. Apple could simply make a slightly thicker (like 3-4mm thicker in the end) version of the Nano and add in 1 or 2 more flash chips (ie 8/12GB capacity).

I do agree that even with 4GB it should be sufficent for most people. Just because you have 1000GB of MP3s doesn't mean you need to carry it around with you at all times.

Well, 8gb CF exists, although it is prohibitively expensive at this point. I know Apple most likely uses some other lower capacity form of flash (Could CF even fit?) but considering the introduction of the Nano will instantaneously re-write the demand for flash memory, I see the possibility of quick increase in storage capacity for flash memory.

Gonna wait till Xmas time for prices to (hopefully) drop, or bundles to appear with it. Anyone else know of a flash player with 4GB+ of space that's as small or very near the size of the nano?

So apparently you don't understand Apple's fixed pricing structure. Ipod bundles are rare and usualy implemented by retailers and not Apple. Your BEST hope to get it cheaper is a price mistake (not likely), some massive Staples/Office Depot etc coupon/% off deal, or buying it refurb from Apple in a few months.

AFAIK no 4GB flash players exist outside the iPod Nano (without some like 2/4gb CF card). And nothing compares in size (and capacity/screen/controls).

Also it should be noted that the iPod Nano almost certainly does NOT use a CF based memory. CF cards are 3.3mm x 36.4mm x 42.8mm (5141 cubic mm) The Nano is 88.9mm x 40.6mm x 6.9mm (24904 cubic mm). I can't really see 20% of the space being used up by the flash card. Considering you need to put in a battery (takes lot of space), screen, controls, casing (which takes a huge amount of space) and processor/pcb. What Apple did is that they are using the individual flash memory TSOP chips (think back to a PC133 stick and a single "black" chip on the PCB is about what it looks like). Actually if you take apart a CF card they often use just 1 or 2 of those TSOP flash chips.

you can also get a small discount via an educational discount directly from apple's website.

Jobs said today or friday in Apple stores.

I'm going to stop by and check out the black one tomorrow. Probably pick one up, and keep my 3g iPod permanently hooked into my car.

zen nano plus

Because Apple is cooler and bigger? In 2 years time nobody is going to remember (or very few) the Creative Nano Plus. And in 2 years 90% of people will know the iPod Nano. Also it is likely Apple (or anyone) can't trademark the term "Nano"

I was just trying to be funny....

the other day I posted the intel mini pics and all the apple fanboys came in and laughed at how intel copied the mini from apple...I'm just playing off that

From what I understand it is already shipping. Apple Stores (B&M) should be getting them in today. And some reports of some of the early early people who ordered are getting shipping prep status.

i would have really considered getting one if Apple finally decided to put an FM tuner on it.

the gym has many TV's that broadcast their sound via FM. i'd like to use that function.

damnnnn

I love it too.. only question is battery life.

NO remote = crappy imo. Got to have a MD stick like remote!

Should be a bit shorter. I prefer a more squarish shape then a rectangle. Fits in my pockets better.

I may get one anyway though...

Totally agree.

When someone makes something like that that is an inch smaller and has a dam remote that is like an MD remote and is at the top that would be about my perfect mp3
