No Floppy finally catches up to me

I just reformatted my computer and I am about to install a linux dual boot so I decided I would use the Norton Ghost that came with my motherboard (EpoX 4G4A+ ) to make a backup image.

Unfortunately, if I want to make a backup image, I need a floppy drive to use their boot disk so I can get into DOS. Is there any way around this or are there ANY programs that would let me make a backup without needing a floppy drive?

It wouldn't be a tragedy if I couldn't make the backup but it would certainly be nice. I guess this is the only time I regret not having a floppy drive

yep, this is the reason i went around asking for a floppy emulator... noone seemed to know why i would need one or what it was...

What cd can I boot from that will give me a DOS prompt but will also let me ghost the image from an NTFS partition?

I didn't think of that until now...

If I boot from DOS, it won't be able to see the NTFS partition and it won't be able to see the ghost exe then.

Since I have 5g free for linux, I could make a FAT32 partition and move the ghost.exe onto that partition if necessary. I would still need to get to a DOS prompt.

just do as I do get a cdrw and burn a floppy boot with the required ghost file on it works fine , dumped the floppy long time ago,It did not look nice in Lian Li case

Well, I have looked all over and I can't find a CD-ROM boot that supports this. I tried a Win98 setup disk and burned that to a CD but it didn't work and I'm pretty sure you need certain settings for it to be able to boot.

Can somebody let me know if there is an ISO I can download that would do this or something?

You should be able to use a win98 disk to boot into dos - if its a legal copy of course

What version of ghost are you using? The newer ones have a nice little no-brainer wizard for creating a bootable CD.

Or go with any of the solutions mentioned above.

Just goto your local used computer parts place and buy a cheap floppy. Do what you need with it and then remove it.

This is similar to my arrangement. If I ever need a floppy (extremely rare), I just take the drive out of my sister's computer for a couple of hours. If that's not an option for you, then the $10 convenience fee is still well worth it. Booting from floppies is still the most common option for installing a new OS, and often there's no way around it.
