No Hard Drive in BIOS??

I am trying to FDISK a hard disk drive in an old system.
System:
HDD: Seagate Medalist 4321 4.3 GB
Motherboard ASUS BIOS ROM EISA BIOS
Processor Pentium-S 133 MHz
On boot the HDD is not recognized.
The HDD is set as master on IDE 1
There is nothing else on IDE 1. IDE 2 has a CDROM.
When I boot no primary master is seen. I put in a boot disk and when Itry to FDISK, "NO Fixed Drives Present".
In the BIOS I have the primary master set as Auto.

Is the drive showing up as being recognised during boot? Have you tried manually setting up the drive in the BIOS?

The HDD does not show up when booting. I have not tried to set the drive manually in the BIOS.

Try putting the harddrive on IDE2. Could be that IDE1 is kablewey.

when that happenned to me, i checked the cables, the jumper settings
and ended up throwing away a bad hard drive.
tried everything, but if the BIOS don't see it, its probably dead.

Does the drive spin up? Does it detect the CD-ROM? It's possible you could have the jumpers/cables set wrong..there will be cases it won't detect a drive..or either of them if one is hooked up wrong or set wrong....

I've got a similar situation going on with an IBM right now. My system will not recognize this drive no way, no how. Tried every combination available.

I can put it in another system and it's recognized no problem.

And, I already have two of these same drives installed in my computer. Same model, size, etc. Identical, but for the serial numbers.

I just had a problem like this 2 weeks ago, though mine was accompanied by a loud click every once in a while... the drive head clashign against the platter (not a good sign--hard drives ruined) and as stated earlier ended up tossing the hdd. Make sure you check it in another system, if it is still not recognized, consider it pooched and move on!
