So I have a Intel NUC dc32171ye running a media center setup and I just picked up a Onkyo TX-NR717. The issue im having is I cannot get the HDMI from the NUC to work when connected to the AV receiver. I have make sure all firmwares are the latest ont he AV Receiver and the NUC; and I have tried different settings on my receiver for the resolution including setting the input to "through mode" and still no go.

What's interesting is if i hook up the NUC directly to the TV there is no problem. Anyone have any ideas? I have been searching around on the web and couldn't find anything. Its driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you run anything else through the Onkyo? They are known for problems with the HDMI board.

Upgrade the Firmware on the receiver. I heard this helps but don't do it over the internet Ethernet connection if you have one. I heard it does not update properly on that brand.

From what you described it looks like you have HDMI handshake or NUC/receiver compatibility issues. If this is the case it may be rather difficult to solve, but you may try several things. Firstly, update all the firmware and most importantly all the drivers for your NUC, including BIOS update. Also, try different sequence for powering up your system - try TV first, then Onkyo, and only then the NUC. This may theoretically help, but no guarantee.

As a further suggestion, you may purchase one of the EDID emulators that are inserted between the HDMI source (in your case the NUC) and the receiver. You can check Dr. HDMI or HDMI Detective and read their specs/descriptions to see if this relates to your actual experience. These devices are not cheap, but may be the only sound solution for these handshake issues. I guess you may buy either of these if you have an option to return, so you can indeed test them in your actual system before making final purchase commitment.

I have an Onkyo 605 that works great, but when i tried to upgrade to a 616 last year I coudln't get it to handle my PC output either, I think newer Onkyo stuff has horrible issues working with HTPC's. I don't think there is a solution for you other than to send that receiver back like I did mine. Mabye try a Yamaha or Denon.

Also after trying really hard to make that newer Onkyo work I found many others on the web that had the same experience. Maybe Onkyo will fix this on the next line of reciers, we'll see.
