I must've missed that . I guess as the poster below said, it uses actual value rather than rounding like some games did with magazine clips (so when you reloaded, it was more like you threw bullets in the mag rather than just reloading a new mag). It would be nifty if you could save half an Eve syringe .

Yeah I want to see a potion system more like Dungeon Siege, where it always saved the remainder of the pots.

So does the Steam version have all the same pitfalls of the retail version? Are you still only allowed 2 installs, or is it it more lenient?

That has been revised to '5 separate PCs having the game installed, 3-5 installs per PC'. At least the Steam version has, not sure about the retail copies. Valve also released a tool to manually un-register your installation to free up a license in case uninstalling doesn't do it.

I was wondering, has anyone else noticed the bright yellow markings on the walls? I've seen 2 places so far, both I think were in Arcadia. They're usually behind bushes and well hidden. They're like heiroglyphics or something. Any idea what they mean?

Of course the Bid Daddy graphically looks much more complex, etc. , but I bet that it must be something in it...

Anyone cares to comment?

Bioshock wikipedia

"Similarities to System Shock series
According to the developers, Bioshock is a spiritual successor to the System Shock games, and was developed by former developers of that series. Levine pointed out many similarities during his narration of a video initially screened for the press at E3 2006:[20] There are several comparable game play elements: "Plasmids" serve the same function as Psionic Abilities from System Shock 2; the player needs to deal with security cameras, turrets, and drones with the abilities to hack these; ammo conservation is stressed as "a key gameplay feature", and audio recordings serve as the same storytelling device that email logs did.[20] The "ghosts" from System Shock 2, phantom images who replay tragic incidents in the places they occurred, also exist in BioShock, as do modifiable weapons with multiple ammunition types."

I haven't read a singl review of Bioshock yet even though I bought the game. The first thing I noticed when I flipped through the manual were all the similarities between System Shock and Bioshock. However, the 2 things that popped at me right away were the "respawn" stations and vending machines with unique items. Those grabbed my attention right away. From there, it was clear the powers were just psionics and it's the same 3 classes System Shock had. Very cool.

do you have nvidia firewall installed? If so, uninstall it and you should be fine. it is notorious for corrupting downloads.

Yep, this is on of the best tonics in the game. It makes taking pictures for research so much easier once you get this one.

Really? Because neither of them were near Big Daddys. Of course I exterminante any of them that are following Little Girls so there aren't a lot walking around.

Have you noticed that if you freeze anything, all the damage you do to them while they are frozen wears off if they thaw? (eg. you have to shatter them for any damage to stick)

It's too hard to shatter some of the splicers. They don't stay frozen long enough for anything other than a grenade or a couple point blank shotty blasts to kill them.

Freezing them gives you enough time to run away like a little girl

I find that the electric shotgun shells stuns them long enough to hit them 4 times in a row at close range without them responding, and the explosive shells are even better. They're the best weapon I've gotten so far for taking out Big Daddies.

I never had good luck with it. 100 electric gel takes down maybe 1/5 of their health, and then as soon as you shoot them, they become unstunned and kill you. I really don't like how when you shock a daddy and then shoot it, it immediately recovers from the shock and kills you.

Is anyone playing in 'Hard'?

I am and Big Daddies are truly a formidable challenge...they can take enormous amounts of punishment and can take down your lifebar in one hit.

Well, I got around to loading the demo... Used steam for it. For once, I can say "Thank God for steam"...

Well, my impression of the demo is that it is a very well done game. I think the game is very emersive and is quite "spooky"... The graphics are top notch. There are a few textures that look horrible, but those have been very far and few between. If I wasn't looking for them, or knew what they were, I'd probably not even notice them.

I only played about 30 minutes but I am impressed!

But, the game almost seems like somewhat of a copy from Might & Magic: Dark Messiah. Replace magic with eve and a sword with a gun... I am pretty sure the base game of Dark Messiah would be enough to mod and make it very similar to BioShock. So, it DOES feel like somewhat of a clone in that respect.

It also feels like Alice in Wonderland... Which is very cool. The water is done well... Overall I give this game a thumbs up.

The game could have been better though, had SecuROM not been installed, supported true proper Widescreen and had AA built into it. But

As far as AA. I didn't try and enable it, but the aliasing isn't too bad... It is definately noticable, but doesn't detract from gameplay too much... There are times when some objects are severly aliased and it ruins it, but most of the time that seems rare. I am gonna try and force AA and see if it cleans it up.

Except BioShock doesn't suck.

Can someone PLEASE tell me WTF is going on here?

What the hell is with the textures? I have no idea why it does this.

yeah the game itself is ok.

Just not happy with the limits of instalations and rootkit.

Yep, playing on Hard.

My first Big Daddy, I threw a propane cylinder at him to start out, then got him caught in a turret trap (they're very disctractable). I just shot him up while he beat on the turet.

If you can find some object like a fixed table to run around, you can slow him down, trick him into trying his charge attack... if he charges and misses you, he's a sitting duck long enough for you to feed him some buckshot at close range.

That's for the bouncer type ones... I've seen the other kind with the nailgun/grenade launcher, but haven't tried to kill one yet.

Telekinesis + propane tanks will kick his ass.

This game is pretty fun. I'm giving it a 9/10 so far.

The couple I have used it against, since i got the gel gun, went down easy, took maybe 25 or 30 gel just hitting him with it for him to die. I am playing on medium also so if you are playing on hard that could be the difference.
