Denied twice, so far. I never did an automated request for a refund though. Haven't had the game installed for a week.

I'm going to keep trying. Eventually, they are bound to get tired of me, lol.
how many hours you got on it?

Give me good textures and I'll get the game. I guess that's my fad these days in games. Got to have decent textures. Nice art design and a good story if possible help to round it out.

3 hours and 18 minutes. They're being hardasses, probably because of all the shitty people with 50 hours requesting refunds.
Put in a automated ticket then put in a steam support ticket to the billing department or some other department with a wall of text explaining the the misleading aspects of the game (I copied and pasted from that huge Reddit thread).

Let me know how that goes. You have way less hours than I had.

I figured they'd choose to close the floodgates on refunds pretty quickly once they realized the ridiculous amount of anti-hype sling-shotting towards this turd of a game.

Disputed the purchase with PayPal. Suddenly Valve offers me a credit to my Steam Wallet for the $59.95 - said I had too much time played for a PP refund but Steam shows me at the same 4 hours!
So they get my money any way you slice it. I'll keep the dispute open, and let PP sort it.

I would be careful of doing a PP refund, or chargeback. Valve will not mess around if they already gave you Steam credit and you want to get real money back that way, they will lock your account from further purchases.

I'm actually really surprised they are even letting refunds past the two hour mark, the rules are the rules. Of course there are exceptions, but if they are going to make an exception for a game it has it be all inclusive, they cant cherry pick a situation for a specific period of time, it needs to be no questions asked.

I had been denied a refund before I opened the dispute. Then after PP notified them, suddenly they offer me Steam credit.
Regarding the time-frame, they are folks who have received refunds with many more hours played than me.
All in all, Valve should do the right thing, no questions asked.

Valve opened a can of worms, by allowing some to get money back beyond the two hours they may legally have to honour everyone else too, they should give a refund based on that but don't count on it.

Seriously though they didn't have to give refunds to anyone over two hours, I would rather they took a firm stance with their rules.

The accusation is false advertisement for the developer, that's great and all but until someone takes them to court and wins its just an accusation, Valve cant been seen as bending over backwards to customers based on accusations(even if they are true) until something happens in court, if someone wins then they would have to offer refunds no questions asked indefinitely.

By offering refunds to some no questions asked they fucked up, they went soft and now are backtracking.

I did both already. All I'm getting is " We have provided all the available information and will be unable to assist you further with this issue. "

That's what I'm getting too. Somehow my time on it has crept up yet another hour when I haven't played in almost two weeks.

Same crap with me too. Said I played 5 hours (most of that was spent troubleshooting this pile of dung) then in the process of building out my new rig and restoring my game library it jumped up to 6 hours.

I think steam is deliberately boosting up playtime so they can deny more people.

And that's why people hate on gamers. You buy into the hype, don't wait for reviews, then cry and complain wanting your money back when you could have read reviews for it and known what type of game it was and paid the exact same amount of money and played it on release day. I've never asked for money back on a game that had shown it had something but didn't. It's not like this is the first game to ever do that. And that's why I'm waiting for this game to go on sale. I don't pre-order anything unless it's from a well established developer with a track record. There's so many articles out there telling you not to pre-order and you do. It's your own fault, you don't deserve your money back after playing or for hours.

I didn't "buy into" any hype. I was actually very skeptical about this game before buying it. One of my friends who I generally trust because we share a lot of the same tastes was raving about it (he got the PS4 version on its' release day) so I preordered it the day before release.

It took me 3 hours of playtime over about 4 days to realize this was one time my friend was full of shit. Oh and now, he's upset with the game after putting almost 30 hours into it, and he tells me he's been emailing Hello Games almost daily about it.

The thing is, I'm not even asking for my money back, really, I just want better games instead. I'm asking for a credit to my Steam wallet so I can buy something else.

I can confirm that after multiple chats with Steam via an actual steam ticket...they will not provide a refund. maybe they did at first but no longer. I have kept chat records and they are actually being A holes about it now. I have been nothing but professional with them and no joy.

The way I look at it...I bought into the game and since I cannot get a refund I will just hope that the devs make it better or mods do the same. Ultimately it might turn into a great game. Right now it is good but limited.

About the game play time recorded by Steam, it's not always accurate due to the way Steam records it (by tracking the runtime of the exe file). What happens though pretty often with buggy releases like this one is that the game crashes and the user moves on to doing something else but the process stays open in background (can confirm via taskbar) and Steam records that as time played.

I hope this is a wake up call for the pre-order fad, I always thought it'd backfire one day with shoddy devs/publishers taking advantage of free money by using the hype train. Choo-choo. Apparently Infinity Ward are using a remastered CoD4 to sell Infinite Warfare which looks like a sh* game so far.

I'm enjoying the game, but I'm curious - how many of your pre-ordered StarForge? If you want a pre-order disappointment, check that one out.

Yeah pretty much. There is nobody to blame but the people who preorder. If these people didn't preorder then the developers would have to make a good product.

Bullshit. If you think that not preordering means bad games are going to go away, I've got some ocean-front property in Utah to sell you.

I agree with you in principle, however I think had the game been $20, people would be slightly more understanding.
The fact that its a $60 game is the part that is frustrating.
With that said, Pre-Ordering is not a wise thing to do in today's gaming market given the track record of Overhype.

Hey! that will eventually pay off...in ~500k-2 million years or so.

I have tried to get mine refunded, but no go. Although I do have more hours than a lot here (10 hours). But the thing is the original release ran ok for me. Then they patched it and it completely broke. Horrible frame rates now, randomly crashes, and I cant bypass the stupid intro. Stopped playing it the day after that first patch.

If this was a 15-20 dollar game I would not care as much. But 60 for a game that is completely unplayable makes me a bit peeved.
