Reading that page and the backstory makes me sad. Apparently the writer of the article already reported that he believed it was going to be delayed based on their sources, but it wasn't official yet and fans sent him death threats for claiming it was delayed when he didn't know. Now it's official

That's a bit extreme. What the hell, this game didn't even seem to be that interesting. In my opinion it's probably better it got delayed so it can get ironed out.

This is one of those games I will have to spend a lot of time watching others play to see if it gets my interest. Is it exclusive to ps4 only?

gaming is srs business.

I didn't read the details (perhaps there are none), and I only linked that Kotaku article after getting there from another article that seemed more speculative...but I wonder if this delay is more about trying to optimize or even a late-minute add in for VR? Hoping the former, because if it's the latter (would likely be a mandate from Sony to push PS4), I expect a sloppy and poor implementation that will do more harm than good, esp on a console.

My guess is just some dumb 12-year-olds saying stupid sh*t. Instead of ignoring it, "journalists" love this kind of stuff, because then they get to Tweet about it and get tons of hits from people with nothing more important to care about. (And I'm guessing at least 75% of the SA / 4chan crowd pulling this still doesn't have a driver's license or couldn't afford a car if they did - so what do you have to worry about?)

One might even believe that sometimes these "threats" are contrived to create such a scenario. But surely that would never happen, right?

Considering the age we live in they have to take all threats with a notion of seriousness but I'm willing to bet the ones who made the threats are probably from the same people who think it's the funniest thing in the world to scream racial slurs over the headset during online games.

Well it's unfortunate that it got delayed. They started hyping it back in June of last year, giving the impression that it wouldn't be too long until release, while not providing a date. This was apparently way too early to let loose the hype train, so I can understand why some are getting frustrated with the waiting. But death threats is a little extreme..

I was looking forward to playing it this summer but it looks like I'll have to get into the Elite Dangerous grindfest as a substitute...

I am holding back, too. It seems like something I would really like...but I think I want to go through some impressions first, especially to see if it is mostly tedious or it takes many pleasant hours, at least, before it becomes tedious.
