This is one of those games you better not buy it day 1 and wait for reviews.

It looks like a fun game, but it also is one of those games that might not hold interest after a few hours of same stuff over and over.

For that reason, I will probably rent it first. Since the system requirements are pretty low, I doubt the PC version will be much different. The PS4 version should be pretty close for giving it a test drive.

Yea this is a good game to rent from red box and see if you like it enough to purchase it. I may do that myself when it comes out.

I'm not gonna read seven pages. Time is money.

well, you spent the time to create an account to post redundant information here, today, and have already posted 7 times...

:hmm:

and it's 2 pages, nub!

Just as redundant as your post.. nub!

Also the number of pages depends on the mode you're using to view this forum.. nub.

Rumor mill has it that Walmart is selling the PS4 version now.

incorrect. Don't ever believe people when they say they get a game early at retail locations like walmart, its a pay to scan item, the register will not even allow the sell of the item untill a certain release date. People can steal them, but they don't sell them.

So since info seems to be trickling out, what's the consensus? Do people like it? Is there enough "game" there to be worthwhile?

The end game is exploring mostly so if you like to explore there's enough it seems.

I only know of one real-world gamer who has played it (not from the media in anyway). He had some criticisms, but he felt it was worth it. It's quite the endorsement considering he paid $1500 for the copy he has right now.

I haven't watched his streams, personally, but he has come by the NMS sub and gave summaries of his observations.

Apparently, the team had been at work since a month or so on their first update, which they're wrapping up now. I'm counting the days one by one and as I do I find it hard to concentrate on anything else. I wish we were far enough in the future to enter our own stasis pod until a scheduled release.

Didn't follow all this hype about the game on social media...but it seems to me a great game is about to be released and it MIGHT have the one or the other bug in the first iteration at release.

Obviously, this is totally new to me. I'd even go so far as to say it's unheard of in the game world. WHEN EVER was a game released and had some bugs? NEVER, EVER!!

If you want a "game game", there are only like a million such games to choose from. That it seems to be a game with a focus on exploration is WHY I'll likely get it. I could care less for scripted "games" with pre-set goals.

So just a thought I had, in relation to that guy who got himself a leaked copy and managed to play the game. I was thinking... how, or rather why could he play the game in the first place?

I'm wondering about it because, as far as I know the game is - technically - online, isn't it? It has never been advertised as a single-player game, and Sean Murray very often mentioned how it is (technically) possible for players to meet in the game. Which should of course mean that everyone is going to play within the same generated universe, which obviously means that it has to be online (at all times).

Since the guy actually played the game, then does that mean: 1) That the game's server(s) were already up and running, and the game's universe is currently accessible even though the game hasn't been officially released yet? 2) That, in fact, there's perhaps an offline mode that we're not aware of that contains the exact same generated universe than the one in online mode?

If it's a question of servers being online already (even though the game isn't out yet), then why would Hello Games not "lock" them for themselves until final release? I admit I'm confused right now (not as much about the how he managed to play it as I am about the why). If anyone has a good guess on what actually happened I'd definitely like to hear it. Because, ultimately, if it means that the game is - in fact - not "really online" then it's sort of a big deal, as much as it'd be a big deal if we happen to also have an offline mode.

He paid $1300 for, presumably, access to the server.

Which makes me wonder, considering how huge this universe is supposed to be and how popular this game will be on release--how are these servers stacked? Is it just one single server, or does it generate instances based on game population? If the Universe is as big as suggested (very few people would ever actually meet), would it even need instances? I would assume that the server load is simply tied to the game population and not the universe size and whether or not players meet in the same place, right?

You don't have to play online, and the game has no need to retrieve any assets from servers. Everyone plays in the same universe regardless because we all have the same algorithms and the same seed.

The online side is strictly saving Atlas data and networking player location data.

1.) No, it doesn't mean that (see above).
2.) Online has always been optional. No network connection required. If you have a network connection, it uses it. If not, it saves your Atlas data locally until you are online and you won't ever see another player (unlikely as it is either way).

No need for instances. Your client wouldn't need to be fed data for anyone not in your current system.

Dumb question: is this a game where you should have a flight stick type controller for the flying portion? Anyone have a good device to suggest? I need to get one for star citizen anyway...

I don't think they've put that much thought into the flight model. Mouse and keyboard or a gamepad should be more than enough. Though, I will at least try it with my HOTAS if it's supported, just to see how it feels.

Ah I see. It makes sense indeed.

Someone needs to go watch South Park "Go God Go" and "Go God Go XII"...

I think i will grab it, just more Minecraft with much better graphics, and maybe a bit more depth. Still I love exploring, if they make enough parts so that all the mobs places dont seem the same, it should be fun.
