I'm still playing it, though I can see myself getting bored with it soon. I've maxed my multi-tool. Every upgrade I get for it is "already known." They really should have made them more rare. Seems there is one in every building. I've not upgraded my ship much because I took a lot of time to fill my hyperdrive with warp cells and if I upgraded my ship I would lose them (AFAIK), so I'm still on like a 17 slot ship.

I finally found a good means to making money on the planet I'm on now. There's these little plants that hurt you if you get near, that give you an item (can't remember the name, Venom Sac or something) when you destroy them that sells for about 26K. The sentinals become hostile when you start mining them though, but the plants are all over the place. I find an outpost with a galactic market, go outside, mine about 5-11, then run for my life into the shelter and sell them. Then repeat. Made 5M space bucks in about an hour.

Apparently Steam is starting to cave on refunds. I'm restarting my request to see if I have better luck this time around.

https://as.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTh..._no_mans_sky_refunds/?st=isdlh3df&sh=31b9b706

I tried again earlier and got auto denied. I just resubmitted again saying I have technical issues and want a refund. So we'll see if they bite or if they auto deny me again.

PS - they added 1 more hour of gameplay on this game and I haven't played it since release day.

Looks like NMS is finally getting bit in the ass for lying about their game and over-hyping it just to justify the ridiculous $60 price tag. This should hopefully send out a clear warning to all future developers about trying to screw the consumers.

I think this is a 'it's getting out of hand' scenario and timing. The problem is this game was basically billed as a AAA title being pushed by Sony, when it wasn't. The devs doubletalk didn't help.

agreed. the power of butthurt internetting gamers. I don't see this as any sort of intentional "fraud" or flagrant false advertisement...just a wishful and unfiltered dev that never really should have been in front of a camera. I think the guy was naive, but Sony never reigned him in. ...unless he and HelloGames were actually sending some misleading spec demos as progress updates that never gave Sony any reason for concern about the released product.

This is in response to the store page actually showing videos and listing features that are not in the game. Blatant false advertising.

So videos on the store page of features and game play not in the game is not false advertising?

I think it is, but I was suggesting that the hype for this wasn't flagrant--meaning, whether Sony or steam is responsible for promoting that, it may not have been intentional.

I think it's possible that Sony themselves may not have had a complete picture of what the final game was going to be and, for whatever reason, this stardust-eyed little bronie of a dev dude was just really keen on agreeing that everything he promised would be there. For the most part, the blame really should be on him first, then probably Sony for failing to handle his public appearances.

The investigation tied specifically to the steam ad--yes I don't see how that can't be considered false advertising. Figuring out what happened is probably more complicated--the punishment is probably simple, though. It doesn't bother me, personally, because the game itself seemed too stupidly ambitious to live up to what was promised. Even if 80-90% of that was actually in the game, just going by that reality I was already skeptical about how fun it would actually be. I was always critical of the proud lack of direction/goals in the game. My thought would be that you just end up with a large version of the ME1 planet explorer missions, so after 2 or 5 planets of doing the same thing over and over, and that is all there is, you lose interest.

Oh, and pre-ordering. Don't do it, and avoid the butthurt. I doubt this will stop the practice from distributors as they will probably only learn to better tailor how they promote the games.

I was a major supporter of this game when it was still in its infancy. That being said, I never pre-ordered because this is the kind of thing that happens. Hopefully that practice falls by the wayside.

Then places can scale back their refund policies a bit, too, which I think would be better for the market in general.

Its not that bad, the most that will come of it is removal of the deceptive ads.

I never watched the interview, but it was said that during their interview a week before launch, they showcased a video (one of their misleading Steam videos) and they claimed the video was indicative of actual content in the game.

Hello Games might not be an intentional target simply because they are a new indie team, but if something happens which causes developers to stop using misleading images and trailers, then I'm all for the outcome.

I struggle to see how you can support that attitude if you've paid much attention at all to the situation. For example, HG posted this the day before launch: http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/what-do-you-do-in-no-mans-sky/

To answer the question, "what do you do?", that post links to all of the videos from E3 and so on... which show and describe core gameplay elements that aren't in the released game. It then goes on to link to fan made "guides" on reddit and neogaf, which also describe a core gameplay loop that doesn't exist.

HG had to have known months ago that they were going to fall well short of what they had been describing. Certainly by the time they made the decision to delay the launch. If you consider that and look at their marketing throughout the summer, I don't see how you can call it anything other than intentionally misleading. And I'm saying this as someone who didn't preorder precisely because I feared that the game was massively over promising.
