No disrespect meant, but you wouldn't put your best hitter up if you knew the pitcher was going to hit the next batter.

During WWII the Marines fought in the Pacific. Part of the operational duties of the Corps is to seize and hold advance Naval Bases.
I'm trying to understand the analogy, but failing
LMAO. End of thread, right there.Reading a book might help you with these dumb questions.
stupid and wrong.
that was the main reason. Also the number of Marines were small compared to the Army
Another i read was that the heads of the army were upset with the fame the Marines received after WW1. They really didn't wan't to be upstaged again.
Rangers were involved in scaling the cliffs of Point Du Hoc. They are technically not Marines, but they are the best of the best.
The Marines were very busy storming the beaches in the pacific, you know, against the Japanese.
How the f*ck can you graduate from school without this level of basic knowledge? Mindnumbingly stupid!!!

Normandy was a volume attack where the main strategy was to overwhelm. The Marines were and are generally used more strategically. know it alls may chime and say I'm wrong, but that's probably because their grandpappy was in the army and it hurts their tender feelings.
The analogy was that if you knew you were eventually going to get on base by hit by pitch, you wouldn't put up your best pitch hitter
What people don't realize is that the Army, while famous for Europe and Normandy, is largely overlooked and glossed over in the Pacific. Though the entirety of the Marines were fighting in the Pacific the Army too was providing tons of troops to take those islands.

whut? I wonder what they were doing when that went down
You know, a volume attack as opposed to Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Okinawa, etc.
/facepalm
Yea, but we actually had more kills than casualties in those encounters...not so with Normandy.
Problem is most of the people's knowledge of WWII on this forum comes from Saving Private Ryan and/or Call of Duty
