... on the ideological spectrum, you should recognize a few basic facts:

One-winged birds cannot fly. They need both left and right wings.

They also need a strong center to generate power for flight.

Our American eagle cannot fly without both its left and right wings. So, too, is it for whatever bird you'd like to designate as a symbol for humanity in general.

Flight-less birds are much easier prey to those who are hungry.

Bear these things in mind when reacting to those with whom you disagree.

america is not a tree either
/thread

And if it was it would probably be burnt down by some dirty smoker flipping their butt into a forest and landing in an eagles nest and setting it all on fire.

I've always found that people that strictly toe party lines are often just silly caricatures, and it seems to me that both sides have taken contradictory positions.

I hear you zsdersw. The extreme polarization is not in the slightest bit conducive to solving the enormous problems that face us. These are problems for which there are no good answers. Problems for which the best solution means everyone loses.

People come together and work together for common goals when rallied by a leader. One who garners respect, can effectively communicate and gives it to the people straight with no hype or bias. We desperately need that leader.

Bullshit. It's the centrist ideal that everyone should be pleased that has put us where we are.

Not everyone can be pleased. People need to get that through their fucking head. Contrary to populist nonsense drivel, there IS a right way and a wrong way to do things. Making sure that everyone is happy is the wrong way to run a country.

There are hard decisions that need to be made, and we need politicians with the balls to make those decisions. We don't need more politicians that pander and sell out to everyone.

Yes, having and debating opposing viewpoints is necessary. However, policy enacted by those in charge should only choose the better of those two viewpoints. That's not what currently happens.

One of the problems we see now is litmus tests and rigid ideological positions with no wiggle room. How can compromise even be achieved if the base premise isnt factual or even based in reality..

For instance....death panels...birthers....truthers...10 thousand yearers....etc...

people, believe whatever they want to believe and they won't change (otherwise they're wouldn't be conservative). i work with a guy who INSIST that the laws of this country are invalid because Barack Obama is not a citizen. you could send him a million links to Obama's birth certificate. it didn't matter.

This is comical, considering the source.

You're comical, considering the source. You apparently don't pay too much attention, or think that because you're on the internet you know something about someone, that would make you a fool. If you'd like to point out which party line I toe than please feel free so I can shut you down.
