Here's the email I got:

"We want to let you know about some changes to our BLOCKBUSTER Total Access? subscription plans. This information is provided for your reference only ? your subscription plan will not be affected by these changes.

Beginning July 26, 2007, there will be a price increase on your current unlimited plan. We will also begin to offer plans which limit the number of in-store exchanges available each month.

As a preferred customer, your plan will not change at this time. Please continue to enjoy your exclusive subscription plan, including no monthly limit on free* movie rentals or discounted game rentals when you exchange in-store, at today's price ? far below the published rate available to new subscribers.

At any point, you can log in and review your current subscription plan or see all available plans. Keep in mind that if you want to change your subscription plan at any point after July 26, 2007, your new plan will be subject to prices and terms available at that time."

I still haven't received an email, and my plan details haven't changed. I really hope they don't try to raise my rates/lower my benefits because I'm still in my trial period. Guess I'll find out next week when my real billing starts.

Read this if you want to find out why BB is doing this.

On Thursday Blockbuster reported a second-quarter loss of $35.3 million, or 20 cents a share, compared with net income of $68.4 million, or 31 cents a share, a year ago. Blockbuster blamed costs associated with Total Access. Blockbuster also lost $49 million in the first quarter.

Netflix, meanwhile, has earned $35.4 million during the first half of 2007.

Blockbuster has chosen to start a price war with netflix that they never had any chance of winning. They have been "giving the store away", which is probably their largest cost. Netflix still has room to slash their prices and still keep their head above water...blockbuster is already out of air. We are seeing them crack now. The in store trade is a sweet deal for consumers, but it just isn't sustainable...it may not go away altogether, but it'll be slashed down to nothing at least.

I'd cash in on the BB deal, but there isn't a store close around here.

Your current plan...BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium $14.99 / month (plus taxes)
2 at-a-time, unlimited mailings
unlimited in-store free movie/discounted game exchanges
+1 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month

Yeah, hopefully it doesn't change anytime soon. I'm sure they'll screw the grandfathered plans in time. Sucks because I also use the in-store exchanges constantly.

If only Amazon, BB, NF, Microsoft or some other entity would get going with quality video download services based on a subscription for unlimited rentals, with a decent selection, that I can stream to my xbox360. I'd stop renting DVDs entirely.

That is the first time I have seen the: unlimited in-store free movie/discounted game exchanges

Has anyone returned a movie for a game? How much is the game when you do that?

I was on the 3/mail + unlimited in store exchanges + 1 coupon per month plan for $18/mo, however I got the email earlier in the month saying my plan would revert to the 3/mail by mail + 5 exchanges, 0 coupon plan for the same price. I just downgraded to 2/mail + 3 in store exchange option for $15 - looks like I didn't get the grandfathering option for the original plan.

WE just canceled our BB account and replaced it with a $15.99 3-at-a-time Netflix account. For a dollar more, we get profiles (so me and my brother can share one account) and we get a faster turn around time, plus access to more HD movies. Plus, the store by my house pretty much blows in the movie selection soits not like i am losing that much anyway.

same. i cancelled and will be switching back to netflix when my BB runs out.

i was willing to put up with the lower selection for being able to go to the store and exchange plus one game rental a month.

But loseing that (well limited to 5) is annoying. screw that. thats not enough to stay with BB.

going back to netflix i get more choice and more blu-ray movies. PLUS its cheaper!

I just got the email moving me over to only 5 in-store exchanges. My wife signed us up with BB Online not long after they first started offering the service. I can't believe we weren't grandfathered in. Going to have to give them a call now.

you will get a run around. plus asking to talk to a supervisor is useless.

Thing is, it is still hard to beat the current deal with the two free in-store coupons plus 3 out at a time and the 5 in-store exchanges for $17.99. I can't get that with Netflix and since I have a BB distribution center near me, shipping time isn't an issue for me. I get movies within a couple of days.

We will not automatically renew your subscription on your next billing date.
I bet they're canning me because I get my money's worth out of their DVD's. Someone else posted here saying they're considered a "premium" customer and thus got to keep their plan - guess I'm not a "premium" customer.

Not sure what I'm going to do. I don't appreciate them not applying the policy uniformly - if everyone had to change, fine pay or leave. But some are exempt? Farkin' a$$holes. I love the plan and the in-store option, plus the people at our local store are nice. I don't want Netflix & their throttling. I'm going to call and bitch - if they don't grandfather my rate, I dunno what I'll do. Decisions decisions
I think 'your moneys worth' means that they are losing a lot of money on guys like you. I am curious if they changed this for everyone or if they just looked at plans and cut them off at a certain rate. So there isnt really anyone that is godfathered in they just looked at usage and cut off those that use it a lot and let people who didnt use a lot keep the plan, who knows.

Also you can call and complain but what company really cares about a customer that is actually costing them money instead of making them money? idk

You can certainly vote with your wallet and not use Blockbuster...

I could but Netflix is too slow with their shipping. I had NF up until March of this year and then I switched. So its either use BB or download movies illegally.

I always get mine in 1-2days and im in rural WV. What do you consider slow?

Don't know why you didn't receive the e-mail. Maybe becasue you have a diiferent plan than I do. Here is the e-mail i got on 7/27/07.

Dear Jdini76,

We want to let you know about some changes to our BLOCKBUSTER Total Access? subscription plans.

Keep in mind that if you want to change your subscription plan at any point after July 26, 2007, your new plan will be subject to prices and terms available at that time.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at BLOCKBUSTER®

Makes me wonder if I have since lost my option to in store exchange for free.
