Is AMD not making them anymore? Not even in small volumes? I can't find then anywhere on the net. They're almost completely extinct in FS/T forums too.

Why did AMD kill 939 but keep 754? What did AM2 offer over 939 considering it's the same pin count?

My girlfriend bought me my x2 4200+ in November 07. Next week, all but 2 dual cores were gone.

Looks like she pulled a fast one at $65.99.

I have a socket 939 system and I love it, but this type is dying and thats the end of it.

I will upgrade to something better in a year or so, and am glad I have a 4800+ dual core right now. It keeps me in the video game arena.

And there was really nothing wrong with socket 754. A lot of places still use them. My office machine has one. I guess I can understand them supporting it a little longer.

Same here, I managed to score an X2 3800+ for $60 (or even a bit less, I forget) last September or so at Newegg. They disappeared not too long after that.

I'll do a full system upgrade (C2Q?) in a year or two, but for now I've maxed out my 939 system pretty nicely...overclocked X2 (2.65GHz), 4GB DDR1 (picked up 2x1GB here for only $45 this month), and a newly-purchased 8800GT...I'll be set for a while at least.

I'm still hanging on with my single core 939.

I'm thinking about a complete new Intel build soon, but with a new Intel core coming out early next year I'd hate to buy and have the socket dead again in a year.

I normally like to upgrade my CPU/VC at least once using the same RAM and MB. Now the new socket will use DDR3, so an upgrade basicalyy would mean a complete new build again.

Still using my 939 based system and loving it. I upgraded to a X2 4200 in January 07 when I could buy this processor for less than $200. It replaced my A64 3200 because I really didn't want to spend over $600 at the time to move sideways in performance on a C2D.

Since I can play almost any game and do almost any thing on this system, I have decided to keep it until Nehalem comes out and then do an entire system upgrade. This is the longest I have stuck with any platform and I am highly pleased with the decision I made at that time.

Sad to see the 939 platforms death. This is the best platform AMD ever made.

I have two dual core 939 Opterons and a 4400+. The newer (65nm) AM2 CPUs use a lot less power but offer equal or better performance. The 939s will be on Ebay as soon as I can find the time to snap the photos and list them.

I did the same b/c I knew it was 939's last hurrah. OCed it a bit to 2.6. I will have this 939 system for probably 2 more years before i upgrade.

here are a few: http://www.google.com/products...Products&hl=en&show=dd

edit: seems like alot of those are sold out..

AMD channel partners already collected all their SPIFFS by dumping the 939's nearly 2 years ago so its really just secondary markets & stragglers that get stocks or someone buying refurb or clearance market items. AMD generally gives huge discounts/rebates or cash back to people who sell quantity to get rid of the old and stock up on the new so the lifespan once the product line is dead is very short since distributors and retailers don't want stocks lingering especially with cash incentives by the manufacturer to pay to get rid of 'em

Was hoping to find an X2 3800+ but couldnt. So I rebuilt my old game machine with an E8400 instead.

I'm currently looking for an S939 board to pair up with an Opty 144 that I have lying around, and its darn near impossible to find them as well. A gamer friend over on the other side of the pond informed me that he 'binned' a 939 board last week, which just about made me cry. Sad thing is, I have a nice NF4 SLI board to use, but its out for sale as a whole rig possible sale, so no parting out.

I'm still on an X2 4200+ after moving from a 3200+ a year and a half ago. Just bought myself an Opteron 146 and a Socket 939 mobo about a week ago to replace an aging AthlonXP system that was inefficient and ran really hot & loud. I wish I hadn't sold my 3200+ back in the day for $40 but oh well. This summer I'm looking to build a E2220 system though...

Using a Socket 939 with an Athlon64 4000+, my main complaint is the lack of updated nForce3 drivers (but that is not AMDs fault). I am just waiting it out until AMD releases AM3, I can offload tasks to my university's computers from if I need to run something that requires a good deal of power and my games run fine at settings that I find acceptable.

I have my DFI Expert board with a 3800+ X2 just sitting here with about 8 months of total use. Never tried the SLI, since I'm not really a gamer, but I did overclock the CPU to an easy, and stable, 2.6 GHz, at stock voltages.
Love the overclocks at stock voltages, a lot less stress on everything. It's the best 939 board I ever tried, and one of the best 939 CPUs too. I probably should sell it since I'm using a Q6600 now, mainly for web surfing ( everyone laugh now) though I do some video work, which the Q6600 it is really good for.
I might list my 939 items it in the FS area.
