No multiplier higher than 12.5 on KT400?

I have a Soyo KT400 dragon ultra and the board refuses to do higher than a 12.5X multiplier with my new 2400 xp mobile. The FSB is currently at 133 (I plan on going to 166), with the Vcore at 1.475 (the lowest this board will go). Is this a problem I haven't heard about yet or is it just me?

Thanks

No, it's your motherboard. You'll either have to buy an nForce2 motherboard, or modify your chip to get a higher multi.

myocardia: From what I understand this board supports the xp 3000 with the 333 fsb. To run at that speed it would need at least a 13X multiplier. In the bios it lists up to 18X, so is Soyo listing multipliers that just don't work? (not that it would surprise me)

WA261: It is a moblie chip, so as far as I know it is completely unlocked. The proc is listed as running at 1800 Mhz at a 266 FSB which would require a 13.5 multiplier, so I would be surprised if it is the proc. Of course, could I be missing something here?

When the comp boots is detects the cpu as "unknown processor type" but boots just fine anyway. Could this be the reason it is holding back? Perhaps I'll shoot an email to Soyo about it, I don't know if I'll get a response. :frown:

You need to mod the chip to see multipliers higher than 12.5x. There's a guide around somewhere that will help you through it. It's a simple wire mod or cutting the bridge. Whichever you prefer.

Ahh, I see now. So I'll have to alter the multiplier on the cpu itself above 12.5. Well, it will do a 166 FSB so I'll push it as far as it will go for now. Thanks for the input, I should have do a little more homework on this upgrade.

Cheers:beer:

I had the same issue with my mpx board and an easy way to get around it without doing anything permanent to the chip is the wire mod either on the socket or the chip itself.

Yeah, and here's the link on how to do that: link.

i would definitely do this before i modded a chip. not only is it extremely easy to do, but it also can be changed back on a whim.

as far as the link goes, there are a few choices on how to do it. you could wrap the wire loop around two pins (was difficult for my shaky hands), or you could bend the wires into a "U" shape and insert them into the respective sockets on the mobo (was much easier for me).
