No-name RAM safe?

Is it safe to buy 2 sticks of 512Mb no-name RAM?
It's PC3200, 400Mhz, unbuffered.

Thing is, on these features, the site selling them simply says "specification unknown":

Chip "speed" (poor translation), CAS and chip type.

Will unbuffered RAM go with Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and A64 3200+?

And is it safe to expect it to work well with it?

Really? That other guy said that expensive brand RAM is unnecessary for A64.

But I guess quality is always good. The brand RAM costs about twice as much, though...

I've used no name with no troubles before, but i won't recommend it.

Usually you can get good quality value RAM for a good price, & you don't have to worry about problems then.

What, exactly, is "value RAM"? I just don't know, maybe I should go with the Kingston stuff after all. It's just that fact that it will cost me another $130 that bugs me.

ESPECIALLY with 2 sticks in the machine. That's been my experience.

Don't go super high end then. Go for the midrange stuff like Samsung ram or Hynix stuff. Generic / no-name stuff is out of the question for me.

I live in Sweden.

It's either $130 for "normal" RAM, the no-name RAM above for $75, or the premium classy stuff.

If I go for the normal RAM, do you have any suggestions as for what brand to choose and such? I got my sights on Kingston.

Then again, no one has yet explained exactly what value RAM is yet.

Stay away from no-name, generic ram at all costs. Using it is just asking for trouble.

I found some Kingston ValueRam 512Mb DDR400/PC3200, life warranty, latency CL2.5 (though I don't really know whe CL2.5 figures mean in practice) for about $125-$130.

it's really just speed and cas latency you sohuld focus on. if you can try to get cas 2.5 or 2 ram.

in canada generic ram is like 80-90 bucks + tax i can get dual channel kti for 219 by ocz or somethign that 2-3-2 which is good i guess

We have a 45% income tax and a 25% sales tax here. More for those who earn more. Plus estate tax, car tax, television license etc.

And the prices are higher to begin with. Things end up costing more.

Can't you buy internationally and get things cheaper? I mean heck, go on eBay, there are many wholesale/overstock sellers there that sell good value RAM at lower prices. Kingston, Corsair, Crucial and Mushkin all make great value RAM, so check out all of them and see what price you can get :thumbsup:

Can you buy online from Austria, France or UK? I noticed Amazon.AT in Austria has Kingston value ram for Euro 60,79 for the 512mb modules

I could, but the thing is, with the extra shipping fees and the import tax it wouldn't make a difference. :/

The Euro is worth $1.30US, so that ram is approx $100US. Not worth it, especially when you add in the shipping cost(not that it is without it).
