No post... any theories?

Okay my brother just bought a ecs sis 735 mobo
with a 1.4 gig athlon xp

and a bunch of other stuff that doesn't really matter

He stuck in everythign correctly, and tries to boot up nothing...
restarts and still nothing

he thinks his cpu is doa

an hour or so later i take a crack at it.. i stuck in my athlon 950 tb. poop and it works.

i'm going on the assumption sis 735 supports the xp processors since i don't konw much about sis tech. know more on vias. or is the cpu just dead.

any guesses

btw there are no beeps or anything, but everything turns on and fans spin.

Yeah, sounds to me like his CPU's dead. The ECS board doesn't have any jumpers on it, does it? My roomie has one, but I don't remember from when he was setting it up. The cooling fan for the CPU was attached correctly, right? It didn't burn out?

yea we've built computers before and everythign was put in correctly..

just never had doa stuff before

just needed 2nd opinions.

You tried his CPU in your machine? That would confirm the CPU is actually faulty.

Not necessarily! You can pop his CPU back into the ECS but before doing so set the CPU to run at 100/100. If the system boots then the CPU is OK and maybe all you need is an updated bios for the board. Or you might want to set the memory settings to faster speed like Ultra/2.5T/6/3. And then you can set the CPU FSB to 133/133. If it still don't want to boot try make sure you only have one stick of ram and try again.

Try putting the cpu in your machine and see what happens. If it doesn't work then it is a problem with the cpu, if it does, then it is a problem with your brothers mobo.
