So if you play BC2 Vietnam, I'm sure you've noticed by now that snipers, when you're close enough.. will no-scope you and get a shotgun-like effect.. meaning, instant kill...

WTF kind of bullshit is that?

bunny-hopping d-bag snipers with no scope gets multiple kills in succession..

fluke? It happened on three different occasions when I was playing last night.. I flanked them and was about to make a kabob out of his head when turned around and jumped up like a turd.. no-scoping me.. :thumbsdown:

Dice/EA dun goof'd up and nerfed the damn sniper rifle at short ranges...

lol, nerf in the MMORPG sense means to arbitrarily reduce a class's power...I'm not sure there's an opposing word that means to arbitrarily increase it!

why would you reduce its close range damage arbitrarily?

You sure it was a sniper rifle? I used to play shotties on hardcore with slugs, which at range played BETTER than a sniper rifle due to the size of the round. And short range you still had crosshairs, so it was instadeath no matter where you were.

You can shotty people at like 50-100 yards if you have the right kit ... it's crazy.

Um no? Nerf has always meant to weaken in some shape or form. Arbitrary was never used in the description. It is a means to balance. Sure, you may think there is no reason Blizzard made paladin's burst damage extremely lower than before, but it wasn't arbitrarily decided upon to do so.

I'm always late to the party with these FPS games. By the time I have my toe in, everyone else is level 60 and moving to a new game.

IIRC, they made it so that a bodyshot from a sniper rifle will 1 shot kill at under like 40ft or something. It used to be the same damage regardless of range, but now they can snap kill you pretty easily.

not sure why you're complaining about it in BC2: Vietnam

bolt action sniper rifles have always been able to one hit kill provided close enough distance in BC2 unless DICE changed the damage modeling after I quit playing BC2

Might be helpful for really really close range but the bolt action rifles do have a terrible cone of fire inaccuracy of 7.0 when you're no-scoped regardless of whether you're moving or standing still. Compare that to pistols @ 1.0 standing or moving, SMGs @ 1.0 standing or 1.5 moving, ARs @ 1.5 standing or 2.5 moving, or even LMGs @ 2.5 standing or 4.0 moving.

You're going to miss a lot of all but the closest range no scopes with that kind of cone of inaccuracy. I've tried using a dry-erase dot on my monitor way back when BC2 was first released but its simply not worth it, I'll almost always try to quickly scope in for just about all of my shots unless its out of desperation such as I'm jumping over a rock or around a corner and happen onto an enemy right in my face.

I seriously doubt the OP is getting no-scoped all that often. I'm a huge M40 whore and I'm almost always at least quick-scoping to make sure my shot is accurate.

Torso one-shot kills with slugs and magnum ammo really don't have quite that range (its ~10-20 meters just like the main game bolt action snipers) unless you're playing noob-core where the shotties with slugs and magnum (along with sniper rifles) will kill anyone from any range even with a foot shot.

IIRC, they made it so that a bodyshot from a sniper rifle will 1 shot kill at under like 40ft or something. It used to be the same damage regardless of range, but now they can snap kill you pretty easily.

The bolt action rifles were always body shot 1-shot kills at 10-20 meters depending on magnum ammo as they'll do 100 damage up to ~10 meters until that range before their bullet damage drops off as low as 50 starting at ~35 meters and will drop no more.

The change made in Vietnam is that the M40 starts off at 105 damage and drops off only to 70 damage, a significant increase from the main game. Whats more is that the doubled the range before damage drop off, the M40 will do 105 damage out to ~20 meters and doesn't drop off to its minimum of 70 damage until ~55 meters and beyond. Without magnum ammo you can still get body one-shot kills out to ~25 meters. Magnum ammo extends that body one-shot kill radius to ~45 meters.

heh fair enough. I dont do it with the snipers much, just the shootie slug, msotly on HC. the more sniper damage makes sense, ya know, historically, as there wasnt alot of kevlar in Nam :biggrin:

most all the guns in Vietnam are significantly more powerful than their BC2 counterparts, the only guns that aren't are the pistols and auto snipers which are basically reskinned clones of similar weapons in the main game. The M1911 is exactly like the M1911 and the TT33 is exactly like the M9. The M21 and SVD auto snipers are nearly identical to the SVU but actually have a slightly higher recoil AMP.

Not quite sure why these weapons didn't receive buffs, my best guess is that they didn't want the pistols being too OP because of their incredible hip fire / run and gun accuracy and perhaps they wanted to greater emphasize them as a true backup/last resort weapon.

As far as the auto snipers, I can only guess that they didn't buff those because they're easier sniper weapons for noobs to learn as well as the fact that there is no RDS or ACOG for the other weapons, I assume that DICE thought the auto-snipers would cater to the players that really liked the M14+ACOG from BC2 seeing as how that's almost exactly what the M21 is.

They do feel a bit underpowered overall though, especially next to the M40. They do serve an incredibly effective role against Hueys as they rape the choppers like no other.
