For someone who keeps saying he is a Libertarian and Ron Paul supporter, etc he does a godawful job of trying to debate.

I know, which is why I said he's done more harm to Libertarian/conservatives than all liberals, combined, ever could.

How much influence do you think polls have on a president who is in his second term? Very little I suspect

I think they have quite a bit because many believe they will affect the upcoming Congressional elections.

I was gonna bump one of these. There are a bunch of thread of contradiction over the last 8 years. We don't even need to criticize trump. We can just quote conservatives.

You joining the Libertarian party now, you against taxation and government spending?
When I think of the cost of the first family, it's in millions. For the US that's peanuts.
I did not like that criticism against Obama. Glad to see I didn't fall for this topic back when I might have.

Did the Tax payers pay for the reservations in the Bahamas and the Ski Resort in ID? Did they pay for the food and the lodging? Did they pay for the activities? Did they pay for Sasha and Malia's souvenirs?

That's a misleading statement. Vacations are packages and the Obamas would have paid for some of it and the taxpayers for other necessary considerations. Splitting hairs does not change reality.

This perk is offered to Presidents, Obama or not. People just deal with it please.

I didn't like the criticism against Obama either. The President and the First Family can't be expected to spend all of their time in the White House.

Trump might be pushing it, though. Three weekends in a row at the "Winter White House", which he advertises on Twitter after upping the initiation fee. In addition, some of his kids who are under SS protection are jetsetting all over the world to support/expand his businesses (which he has NOT fully divested from), Melania and one of his sons in New York, etc.

Trump is basically using taxpayer money to subsidize his businesses.

Not sure if this deserves its own thread...or just pile it in here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/costing-fortune-protect-trump-family-062440454.html

Judicial Watch, a conservative group that tracked the cost of travel expenses for Obama, estimated that $97 million was spent during his eight years in office.

However, based on the first four weeks of Trump's presidency, which included three trips to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump is well on his way to jump past that figure.

The Post rounded up a handful of estimates of the costs of protecting the Trump family incurred by the US departments of Defense and Homeland Security and local police agencies.

Here are a few:

  • Three trips to Mar-a-Lago since Trump's inauguration may have cost about $10 million, based on a government report from October that analyzed White House travel, The Post said. The expenses include the cost of US Coast Guard patrol boats on the shoreline.
  • Palm Beach County officials say they will request reimbursement of tens of thousands of dollars per day from the White House for their deputies who provided security and logistical support around the city.
  • Police officials estimate that it would cost New York $500,000 a day, or $183 million a year, to guard Trump Tower, where first lady Melania Trump and son Barron Trump live.
  • Secret Service and US embassy employees paid about $100,000 in hotel room bills during Eric Trump's trip to Uruguay, where he promoted a Trump-branded building.
  • If the Pentagon secures rental space in Trump Tower — needed for when the president returns to New York — it could cost $1.5 million per year, according to the building's website.
  • Secret Service paid $12,000 for tents, portable toilets, light towers, and golf carts during Trump's Super Bowl weekend trip to Mar-a-Lago.
“This is an expensive way to conduct business, and the president should recognize that,” said Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton. “The unique thing about President Trump is that he knows what it costs to run a plane,” Fitton said about Trump's travel to Mar-a-Lago in Florida. He suggested Camp David may be the better choice, since Trump can easily get there by helicopter.

Funding the Trump family's complex travel and protection needs may not be the only issue, The Post reported.

“There was an anticipation of how stressful it was going to be on the agency," said Jonathan Wackrow, a 14-year Secret Service employee who served during Obama's administration. "But the harsh reality is that the stress is just overwhelming." According to Wackrow, agents are “at severe risk of burnout."

The Secret Service, however, maintains that it is ready, willing, and able to protect Trump. "Every administration presents unique challenges to which the Secret Service has effectively adapted,” an agency statement cited by The Post read.

"Regardless of location . . . the Secret Service is confident in our security plan."

Every time that Trump goes to his Florida getaway, local businesses suffer for such reasons as the airport has to close. The biggest business that benefits? His Mar a Lago resort, where a 200,000 joining fee now buys you some sort of access to the President. The rich have always had an advantage in hob nobbing with presidents, but this is unprecedented.

obamas daughters got not one but TWO vacations this year alone. They went to vacation in the Bahamas and then went to Sun Valley in Idaho for skiing

So obama is moaning about the sequester and the horrible effects of it and lecturing Americans about tightening their wallets yet his daughters go on two vacations. These two vacation cost the taxpayer a lot of money.
The costs are unknown for now. And it wasn't just his daughters obama himself and his wife went on SEPARATE vacations further wasting tax dollars.

obamas daughters shouldn't be going on these vacations when they cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars. This money belongs to the taxpayer

Do you think its irresponsible for him and his daughters to go on vacation like this especially when we are in a time of sequester? Should these vacations be cut back.

Based alone on the effects a position in power would have on my children I would never accept it. After 8 years of service, 8 years in a critical time of them growing up and the effects its going to have on them for the rest of their lives I think they deserve all the vacations.

Well that's just gotta be a one time thing, can't find people with those special skills...

Most of the requests for foreign workers were for the Mar-a-Lago Club, Trump's exclusive crown jewel property that is both a resort and sports club, nestled on the shores of Palm Beach. In the past 10 years, 849 foreign guest workers were approved to work at the resort, mostly as servers, cooks, housekeepers or similar positions.

BTW my opinion is unchanged its the President's right to do what they choose. This doesn't mean the President and family can go anywhere without it becoming tacky but I certainly don't want Congress deciding if the President can leave the White House.
I'm also OK with more people joining Trumps club because he is the President and people want to be around him. I'll draw the line at using Public funds to advertise the place or weird shenanigans to capture more land to expand the place. Neither of these appear to be occurring at this moment.

I remember how conservatives were up in arms, calling Obama an elitist because he went to vacation on Martha's Vineyard. How times have changed.

How understanding you are being. I wonder what you would be saying if this was Obama. So, Trump raises the fees for his club and then proceeds to spend 3 weekends there. And you don't think those 2 things are coincidental? Trump is a grafter. There is nothing in his life that should suggest otherwise.
