Hi all,

this problem is bugging me for a couple of weeks now, i hope someone here can help me out. when i startup my computer everything seems ok and my monitor displays boot info. but just when windows starts signal to monitor drops and the only solution for me is to unplug my monitor from graphics card and plug it again.

the weird thing is that this does not happen with another monitor i tested with this system, and my current monitor works ok with another system. i'm pretty sure it's a driver issue here. when i boot into safe mode or with windows standard VGA drivers everything works ok.

i recently did a fresh windows install with the laters drivers from nvidia's website, but problem still remains.

here's my rig:
athlon 64 3500+ venice
asus a8n-e
asus en6800gt
2x 512mb kingston valueram
hitachi deskstar 250gb sata/300
antec p150 with antec neohe 430
noname 19" CRT (connected with dvi > d-sub converter)

hi, is the resolution not supported when there is no signal? try 800x600 or 1024x768 and see what happens, by going into safemode or using the standard vga drivers, it basicly does that. asus should also have their own drivers for your asus en6800gt, you can try out theirs also.

the resolution is always 1600x1200@70 which is supported by the monitor. asus' drivers are always a couple of versions behind but it's worth a shot. i'll try them both and let you know how it goes.

different drivers, low resolution(1024x768 or less), this is a crt with 70hz refresh, and it was a new windows install... since it doesnt occur on the other monitor, and the monitor worked on another, i'd personaly switch them due to thinking its a fluke compatibility thing and be:roll: thinking its crazy. anyway, this is a new pc you built and it has been doing this for a few weeks since it was built? or did it start one day out of nowhere doing this months after you built the pc?

well for a week or 2 everything was fine, then it started. because i was installing lots of new software at the time i assumed it was somekind of a software incompatibility. i did a fresh install with latest drivers but the problem remained.

i could swap the monitors but i'll lose 2 inches!

is the os winxp or 2000? by fresh install do you mean format and reinstall or just deleted the windows directory? i dont understand why but if you just deleted the windows directory, the program files directory would still have the programs installed which may have benn it, otherwise i have no idea left but update windows, update the software you installed, or just switch monitors..

the os is windows xp, and i formatted the entire drive for the fresh install. evrerything is fully updated.

it's probably something really stupid causing this. i have plans for a monitor upgrade for the coming months (a nice widescreen lcd), maybe this will make me upgrade sooner!
