No Sound On Asus P4P800 Deluxe!

ok well i just finished helping my friend put together his new system...ths parts arent new but have been run together before...its a p4 2.8c and 512mb ram and an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard.....now for some reason we got no sound...we installed the soundmax driver and it doesnt show that there is no sound...and it recogonizes when i plug something in...so i know the ports must be working...or half working atleast....so i was wondering what am i doing wrong? is it something stupid i missed? i remember having this problem with my computer and board(P4P800-SE) but i cant remember what i ever did...it was a long time ago

anyways we would like to get it running tonight so we can play source and have a basment LAN....so if anyone could hlp us out then kudos to them!!

Is the on-board sound enabled in the BIOS? I think it should be set to automatic.
Is there a yellow exclamation point near the sound card under device management?
Have you hooked up your speakers correctly to the back?
Have you increased the volume?

Cannot think of anything else.

well i have tried all of those....and soundmax(the drievr i use) doesnt say anything is wrong....it appears to all be working correctley....i even tried plugging the fonrt panel ones in VIA the little black pins....and i get the same results NO SOUND....not even varying fuzz or anything!!

does anyone have any ideas!!??

Have you updated the sound driver, the mobo chipset drivers, etc?
If yes, then, maybe you could try a BIOS version upgrade as well.

What operating system?
Where did you get the driver from? The ASUS web site?
How did you install the driver?
What do you see under device manager? Is there a yellow exclamation point?
Have you tried other speakers?

Can you try a cheapie pci sound card?
And remember to disable onboard sound.

i have tried a heaset some old earphones and a set of speakers...none of them worked...i got no exclamation point anywhere...i installed the driver from the CD that came with the mobo...i am using windows XP pro the only things i havent tried is getting a new driver from the ASUS site and flashing the bios......so i can maybe try those...also i am already in the works of getting a cheapie soundcard but i am about 45 min from a local computer store and i dont have my license...so i gotta wait till someone goes there.... will do that if i have to...but i thought meanwhile i would try and get it working.

i might try getting a new driver tonight and see what happens....if nto ill get the cheapie soundcard becuase i dont feel like flashing the bios

well i tried the driver from the asus website and i got the same problem...and yes i deleted the old driver first if u were gunna ask that!

i guess ill have to go with the cheapo soundcard....thanks neways guys
