No-Spank bill on the way in California

This is insane! I see kids all the time at the mall, grocery store, on the 6 o'clock news in handcuffs who need or needed a good smack on the a$$.

Absurdity. I got smacked around a few times when I was a kid and I turned out alright. Not to mention that I see tons of little kids that could use a good smacking to keep them in line.

I wasnt planning on settling down and raising a family in california anyway, but stuff like this scares me. More and more states are (for some ungodly reason) following california's lead when it comes to laws and social change.

agreed, but there is still a fine line between abuse and spanking and crossing of such line should be determined by DHR (child protective services) if someone notifies them of the problem. i would go so for to say i think i was beat more than a couple times as a child. did a desrve it...oh hell yah, was it the right thing for my dad to do? no...it was childish of him IMO. i was a pissed of hormonal raging teen and thried to fight back with him, all he did was put me in my place. but he should have realized the situation and thought it through more. now, am i scarred for life because of it? hell no. i love my parrents to death as do they love me. i'm never in any emotional/physical fear of my parrents or other people who fit similar descirptions( Isnt it, usually kids beaten by large men have some kind of mild phobia of large men?...no?...well..you get the point, i hope)

use of a belt may be a little extreme in some cases (lots of variables, strength of the disciplener, child, etc.) and i figure as long as it doesnt hurt them to the point that it leaves bruises/welts or worse...and it is in the designated area (ass/upper legs) its all good. there is a HUGE difference between smacking you kid the face and a spanking. my mom slapped me in the face a couple times and i cried...not because it hurt but because it is extremely demeaning and...it is just a lot different than a spanking. did i deserve it? ya...should she have done it? no. am i scared? hell no. but it is still wrong...different kids may go overboard and not understand. my parrents gave plenty of spankings and sometimes i think they went to far, but they amount of love given was 10x that of the disciplen. my parrents would and still do awlays ask if they know how much they love me (and my siblings) and make sure i understand...well...as much as i can without kids of my own, such a concept is hard to grasp until such time, i believe. but anyways, the point is they showed their love 100x more than the punishment and i think that is the right way to go about things.

Heres the part where you are wrong. Smacking with a belt is not wrong, morally or physically. Smacking with a belt does the same thing a hand just may sting a bit. You may not agree to it, you may think a talking to you or a slap on the wrist is more effective, but your parents didnt. Does that make it wrong of them? Hell no. Its nothing that much worse than a hand, and it can be perfectly justified, thus it is within the parents choice of using it or not.

Calling your father childish for putting you in your place is childish.

OMG I don't have a problem spanking kids, so long as it doesnt escalate to the abuse level. But there is no fn way anyone should spank a child under 3. Thats fd up right there. Anyway, should be a law? No way.

I didnt read the bill, but I doubt this bill is about just not spanking 3 year olds. Someone else mentioned this, and it goes along perfectly - Smacking a childs hand away from a stove is something perfectly justified to do to one less than 3 years old, so let the parents decide whats right.

What a stupid idea, they've done this in sweden, and the generation that its banned on are such brats, they just do whatever they want because theres no consequences, they dont know right or wrong... Kids phone the police and say their mum or dad beat them and social services come, parents get arrested and held for questioning, all that kinda stuff, its crazy

The politicians can not competently do their OWN jobs and now they are trying to tell parents how to raise their children???? Un-freaking-believable

I think the reason we have so many snot nosed kids running around with absolutely no respect for others (including authority) is because not enough parents are spanking their kids. Instead they send their kids to their rooms with a TV with cable, own phone line, PS3, Xbox etc?

Not only did my parents beat my ass they made it ?psychological? as well. They used to make me go outside and pick the ?switch? they where gonna beat my ass with. Man that used to suck. If I picked one too small they would send me back out and I would get twice the ass whoopin. If I picked one too big I couldn?t sit for a few days.

How many of you have heard some kid get WAY the hell out of line in public? You NEVER saw me doing that as a kid. I knew darn good and well my mother would beat my ass right then and there and when my father got home I had an even worse ass whoopin coming. Now a days you got these brats running around screaming they want this and they want that, knocking stuff off of shelves, calling their mom a liar because she won?t get the brat the latest spiderman toy and what does mom say? ?Keep it up and your gonna be in time out mister?.
