NO VIDEO -- HELP

I am a first time builder. I am trying to get my machine to post, but I cannot seem to send a signal to my monitor.

I have not hooked up any of the front controls of the case to the motherboard.

Here is what I did. I seated the CPU, added the grease, sink and fan. The fan is plugged in. I added the 6800gt graphics cards. I tried to start it and nothing happened. I read on another string about clearing CMOS so I did that and the case fans, video fan and cpu fan now come on. However, I still get no signal towards the monitor.

I hooked up the D bracket and all the lights are off except top right, which suggest memory issues. However, this is brand new ram, 2 x 512 and I have rotated the the pair, tried one at a time, in each slot, etc...no change.

I hooked up the floppy, one cd and on harddrive. Still no change, the fans come on, the light on the cd flashes a few times but the video will not wake up and send a signal to the monitor.

I put in an alternate video card and no change in result. I know the monitor works since I am using that monitor now, just plugged into another machine.

Your thoughts????? Thanks

Yes, the OCZ 520 has some separate circuit power lines for high demand items such a video cards. I tried both of those special circuit lines and also a general power connector and the result was unchanged.

The graphics card's fan turns, it just does not seem to send a signal. I put in a lesser video card which does not have its a separate power supply and the result was unchanged.

Thank you for trying. I am open to anything. I have no spare memory which would work in this machine. I checked OCZ's site and it confirms this memory works with this board, so I don't know what is going on.

Can you try to test the Mobo outside the case ? Worth a try if you don't mind the extra work. It could be shorting out somehow, you never know.
Put it on a non- conductive surface and reconnect the components and see if it'll post.
Try setting the memory voltage and timings manually via jumpers if possible.
Also, the memory modules must be installed in slot 1&2 or 3&4 to enable dual channel on this board I think, not in 1&3 or 2&4 slots.

Also, connect speakers to your motherboard (not to your PCI soundcard). I'm not sure, but if your motherboard offers debugging via sound (I know my board does ), you can look up what it says. If it corresponds to no VGA installed or something, then the graphics card isn't properly seated or it's simply not working.

If you also have another video cable, try using that instead. One pin of my video cable almost fell out. Fortunately, I was able to correct everything and now I have a wonderful display here. Anyway, it might be the cable. Try another one and make sure it's connected firmly. Try a different connector, too. If you happen to use DVI, switch to VGA or the other way around.

I put the memory in a friend's machine and ran memorytest-86 on it for an hour. After 100% testing of all seven test, there were no errors on the ram. So I guess that elimates that component.

Yes, the 6800GT has its own power supply demand and it was plugged in. My OCZ 520w powersupply comes with separate power cables for high demand items such as graphics cards. I tested both those type of power lines with it, in addition to a regular power connector.

However, to elimate the graphic card, I put in another card, which I know works and it does not have an independent power connector. It also would not work. The fans in the graphics cards are coming on, but they will not send a signal to wake of the monitor.

I cannot check anything in bios as I cannot see bios. I get nothing on my monitor. I even tried another monitor and nothing. I am using the current monitor for this message, so I know it works, lol.

When it would not work yesterday, I took the CPU back out and reseated it. Redid the grease, the sink and fan. Plus memory, and power cables. I have also cleared CMOS several times.

In regards to the D-bracket, when I turn the machine on, all four red lights light briefly, and then three remain red while the upper right light turns green.

The only thing plugged into the mother board right now are the ram, cpu fan, a graphics card, the D-bracket and the two power cables.

I went down to on stick of ram. Board is outside of case, on a card board box. the 20-pin atx and 4-pin atx 12v power lines are plugged in . D-bracket installed as if a video card.

No change in results. Fans are running, but nothing else seems to be.

I plugged my headphones into the board port. Other than hearing the soft tap the second I turned on the power button, the board produced no other sounds thru the headphones.

I have been trying two monitors. I know they both work and meaning their video cables work, correct?? I am using one of them now to type this message.

Oooh, overlooked that part. Your motherboard probably doesn't support 90nm CPU's. You need to flash your BIOS in order to make it support such CPU's. Still, I don't know if that's related to your video problem, but it could be...

And there are two kinds of video cables:
- one that's just "hard-attached" to the monitor. You simply have to connect the other end to the graphics card.
- one that has connectors on both sides. You have to connect one side to the graphics card and the other side to the monitor.

If you are using the latter one, then "I know they both work and meaning their video cables work, correct??" is not correct. Try using a different one. Otherwise, you are correct. I'm now fairly sure it's not the cables, though. I suspect the motherboard not supporting 90nm CPU's properly. All freshly released motherboards have this problem. Manual flashing is needed.

Wouldn't it help ifyou connected the power and reset from the case to the mobo?

Haha yeah I hope he at least did the power/reset. I got the same mobo and I didn't bother plugging in the audio headers into it (mic/headphones).
