No video with new monitor with DVI connected

I just purchased the Samsung 226BW 22" widescreen. I connected the analog and DVI cables. Got everything working, looks great, but now i get no video using any player. I disconnected the DVI cable and the video will play. If i connect just the DVI, i get no signal from the computer, box says "check analog cable".
Will a dual DVI cable, analog and digital work alone instead of both connected? First time using a DVI cable, so i'm not to sure of all the aspects of it.
Thanks

Have to changed your monitor to digital input? I own a 225BW 22", and one of the front panel buttons will switch from analog to digital input, along with an on-screen notification of this. Since your getting the "check analog cable" message, it sounds like just finding the button to switch input modes should do the trick - I get the same message if I switch mine to analog, as I am using a DVI cable.

That does work with getting video to play in media player, etc. I was hoping i could just use the DVI cable, but i get no boot up screen (no big deal, but would like it) with just the DVI cable. When windows comes up, it works ok. I purchased a DVI-D cable and thought that may work, but evidently the video card doesn't support just the DVI during boot. Oh well, just a small work around.
Thanks for the input.

Well some progress is better than none lol. I got one more idea however. It sounds like now the DVI is working fine once you boot into windows and not before. This sounds like the DVI port is considered the 'secondary' display port in windows. Goto the Display Properties in windows (right-click desktop>properties>settings). In the drop down box labeled "Display:" there should be a secondary display listed, pick that, and then down towards the bottom under the resolution check the box next to "Use this device as the primary monitor".
I'm making the assumption that this is still the same graphics card you had before switching to the LCD & DVI, which would mean it's using the D-SUB connector as the primary "display" from your previous setup.

I took a look at that, but when i select the secondary(default monitor) the "use this device as primary" is greyed out and the "extend my windows to this monitor" is highlighted. I still have the analog and dvi cables connected so that the boot up screen is available. More playing around to come.
Thanks

Is it blank on DVI until you get to Windows' login or desktop? If so, that's the video card's firmware, and I don't think a setting in the OS will have any affect. Check if there are updates.

Many old cards didn't use DVI on boot. I recall I had to upgrade my GF4 to get that, FI. All cards since then I've used DVI for (any new PC) have 'just worked'.

It's blank until the desktop, since i don't have a login screen because i'm the only one using it. I still get the blank video in media player unless i manually switch the source back to analog. I tried the DVI cable that came with the monitor and also a DVI-D cable with the same results, no video in any media player unless i'm in analog mode. Also, with just the DVI cable connected i also have no video in medial player. Very strange.
