There should be a code in the VBI that tells DVRs when a show starts and stops so you don't have to depend on time.

Actually, don't think they use VBI in most things now. But come to think of it, I do have a boob tube in the bedroom connected to a digital box. I'm sure there has to be a more elaborate way to send subcode in HDTV. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_blanking_interval

Just finished watching it and it was good. Not great but good.

I had medium/low expectations because the last movie was horrible and I knew that it wouldn't be easy to bring the series back after being off the air for 14 years.

Some of the acting did seem 'off' and it's almost like they had to re-learn how to play Mulder and Scully again. But in the end it definitely felt like an X-Files episode probably from about season 6 or 7.


And yeah, Chris Carter has been listening to Alex Jones for sure.

That's what I was thinking, cause I thought I read somewhere that they were going to be involved in this miniseries.

Earlier the abducted girl read Scully's mind and Scully confirmed that Scully was also abducted, shown by Scully's silence. So Scully tested the Russian's blood, which came back negative, then had it retested before leaving to meet them at the cabin and giving the girl the news that her test was negative for alien DNA. The results of Russian's retest and Scully's blood test came back apparently positive after the scene of the group meeting, meaning Scully has alien DNA in her as well.

Yes but why did Scully mention her and Mulder's kid?

I thought she just meant that Scully and the girl -- name is Russian but seemed Hispanic -- were both implanted/modified with alien DNA.

That first episode was bad. But I will still watch the next few episodes.

I did get a kick seeing that girl from the Muslim sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie faking a British accent as a nurse though.

I enjoyed the episode but did have a few questions:

Is testing for alien DNA a normal blood test any doctor can order?
Do all hospitals have the staff and tools to test for alien DNA?
Will my insurance cover a test for alien DNA?

She had a lot of experience on how to recognize alien DNA. If alien DNA is formed by the same nucleotides, but codes different sequences, she can test for those sequences.

So, theoretically, any advanced DNA lab could test for it. eg. A big hospital that does work with genetic mutations, where she works.

Mind you, it wouldn't be on a regular hospital DNA test form, and it would probably take them a little effort to set up the test since most hospitals wouldn't have pre-prepared probes for specific alien sequences. They'd have to make the probes to her specification.

So yeah, it could be done in her local lab, and it wouldn't necessarily even be all that expensive, but it'd take a bit of effort and time.

I thought that, too, but wasn't really surprised when it wasn't them. I am hoping they have a brief appearance sometime, at least.

I had mine done through 23andMe. The nearby government run hospital refused to do the test for obvious reasons, and insurance wouldn't cover it, but it was only $100, so no big deal.
