Looks like they're retiring the originals, and injecting replacements - in the event of, a) a successful reboot, and b) Duchovny and Anderson wanting no part in future X-Files.

In the final episode Mulder and Scully will mysteriously disappear, I predict.

And that's not even original, a red head practical physician and a guy who wants to believe.

Injecting new characters ALWAYS works to revitalize a series!

and dare I say it....

No matter how bad the finale is, it'll be a lot better than The Prisoner finale. I think. Or Gilligan's Island.

i disagree with everyone. just think of it as like every episode is from a different season of xfiles. i hope they get picked up for a full season next year. episode 3 and 5 were great.

Seems the good ratings have prompted then to return the original series into syndication.

Since the demographic for fans of the original show have to be pushing that 18-49 y.o. envelope, the only reason I can see to do this is to bring in people who've never seen the series.

I think they're trying to make this the next Twilight Zone, which was popular for decades after it orginally aired. Unfortunately, I don't see the x-files having the same sort of appeal.

Viewers in the target demo have plunged. It went from 6M to 2M. That's respectable for a new show but I'll be surprised if they get a tenth of that in syndication.

And that's the season... Kind of a mess.

Show kind of went overboard on the conspiracy stuff. They essentially took every prepper theory out there and validated every single one, then tried to end the world. I don't remember any of the original X-Files episodes going this far or going to this scale.

The not serious episodes were also too much of a joke.

In summary... the entire season felt like six separate pilot episodes for six different variations of a potential X-Files themed reboot.

Amazing cliffhanger ending of episode 6. :awe:
Now they'll really need to look for their son that they gave up for adoption in order for Mulder to survive, they need his brain stem cells.
And yes that was a huge triangular UFO hovering over a lot of people on the bridge.

I wasn't very impressed. I think they wanted to please everyone so the 6 episodes went in all different directions. The final episode felt like a Helix episode.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this, they tried to make everyone happy, but, it ended up being 6 loosely tied episodes getting to this point where it falls flat.
I was expecting to see Krycek again as well...(since he did made a appearance--as a ghost, in the series finale).

They should have taken the show in a completely different direction. The mythology episodes of the original X-Files were, I thought, the worst. However, I really did like the first movie. The most recent movie was pretty good too.

I'd like a reboot with the new duo. To be honest I just want a show like this or Fringe back on the air again.

Then what you want...IS NOT X-FILES.

Last episode was a trainwreck. I went into this season with an open mind. I overlooked the shakey acting because I figured they were rusty. I liked two of the 6 episodes. But it's like no one had any great plan for this series. It was the television equivalent of a compilation album of unreleased songs, or a deleted scenes DVD: material the producers wanted to include at various times but for one reason or another it ended up on the cutting room floor. Just a mishmash of ideas and themes thrown together into one 6 episode EP.

If it gets renewed I'll be surprised really.

I think it just was watched as much as it was for the novelty of it, the last one was a mess also.

"This is the End" did seem appropriate.

Seriously, they started off the show with a huge premise... then sidelined it until episode 6 for random monster of the week shows. I really thought they'd spend all 6 episodes focused on that premise like a mini-series. Instead, it looks like they were only concerned about rebooting a series.

The new series will start with Mulder being resurrected from Carbonite before he and Scully set off on a secret space shuttle to destroy a planet killing alien weapon in orbit around the Earth. Sort of like Men in Black meets Star Wars.
