Most Dells now include a "Windows" disc and a "Drivers and Applications" disc, and if you used the Windows disc you wouldn't have to use a CDKEY at all. At least that's what came with my last three Dells (2 XPS M1330's and a Vostro 1320).

Units bought through the outlet do not have windows disks included with them for some reason.

I'm quite sure no one here buys as many systems from Dell's Outlet as I do. The odds of not receiving the Windows install disk is extremely low.
It depends on what the original purchaser specified. The OS media is a no charge option. Many corporate buyers don't want/need hundreds of Windows disks so they order their systems without the disks. If something happens later and they don't accept as many machines as they ordered, the surplus goes into the Outlet. The result is that a "recently ordered as new" machine (which usually means a corporate cancellation) less likely to come with the disks than one that is "refurbished".Originally posted by: taltamir

if you google for it, there's some xp key changer that will read off your current serial key.
assuming that you are indeed keeping everything legal, i'd recommend this route.
just copy it down and re use it during install.
