Nobody likes Alphas and FOPs anymore?

There have been a whole slew of new socket A coolers since the early spring when I was reading up on them. I'm hearing the SK6 being mentioned a lot here in the forums. Are the Alphas and the FOPs still considered to be contenders?

I'm sure they are. But if a hsf cooler can do a comparable job (as the big guns) at a lower price point, I think that'll sell.

They are still contenders, there are just so many other HSFs out there they have been swallowed. The copper GlobalWin is considered pretty good and the Alpha PAL6035 is a good basic cooler. The other ones aren't as good for extreme overclocking, which is what everyone judges HSFs on these days.

Yeah, it's funny. All these new HSF's and they're still being benched against the old Global wins and Alpha's...and barely getting better scores...if getting better scores at all!

You can have these HSF's for cheap on Ebay as well.

St4r: yeah, I didn't see any reviews where they bench the new coolers versus the old ones.. I'de like to though. The FOP32 for example, is quiet and cheap, but I don't know how it stacks up against these new coolers at all. The new coolers I've seen have been benched against each other. :|

FOP 32 is recommended up to 1.2 ghz. I love alpha's and fop's they are cheap and get the job done.

Just for informational purposes, I am using a FOP32 on my 1GHz @ 1.4GHz with zero problems. As a matter of fact, I went into the local computer shop the other day looking for some of the new coolers. They will not carry any of the new ones till they prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they will beat the FOPs in real world machines, not benches. I ordered a SK6 with Delta via the internet, cause I heard it was supposed to be much better, that, and I have a new 1.4GHz Bird enroute as well.... only time will tell.

well i think like or dislike is not the right way to look at it...i buy what at the time seems to perform the best...the last hsf i got was the thermalright pure copper sk-6 because it cooled better then the others...isnt that what hsf's are for...or is this like a ford chevy thing...lol

I said it is RECOMMENDED upto 1.2mhz, didn't say they won't cool higher speed chips. This is from amd's website..
