How is there no love for him if 33% of those polled want him to break the record?

Regardless, steroids are common in baseball like it or not. It is impossible to tell who has used it and who has not. Barry is simply being singled out because he has broken the single season HR mark, and is likely to break the all time mark. He is nothing more than a scapegoat and a mascot for the steroid use in baseball.

If he were an average player who happened to bulk up considerably since the start of his career no one would pay attention to him..much like any one else under suspicion for steroid use..which turns out to be a very high percentage simply go under the radar. Only those dumb enough to be caught and test positive are sort of brought into the limelight, but otherwise the only reason Bonds is somehow singled out in this whole catastrophe is because he has simply been THE most dominating player in baseball in recent years--which is somewhat unfair and takes away from his actual playing ability.

He has had more or less the same advantanges that other players have had over the past few years, but no one else has has come close to the player he's been.

In essence then, in a sport where so many people "cheat", none of them are really cheating.

There's another element to this you know. Big Mac was a likeable guy. Bonds is just a pissed off surly bitter piece of crap. Pretty much just a bad human being all the way around. People embraced Sammy Sosa when him and Mac were neck and neck. Do you know why? It's because Sammy seemed like a good guy. Barry's never bothered to figure this out.

The other side of the arguement too is that we just didn't know back then what we know now. I can guarantee you that if we knew back in '98 that both McGwire & Sosa were on steroids, they would have had just as much critism as Bonds gets now.

The one's who hate on Bonds are naive and uneducated regarding supplementation and performance enhancing drugs. Every professional athlete takes them, whether it's creatine or it's steroids or it's gh. Some might argue that it's unfair for todays athletes to conquer past sports records and accomplishments because of todays advance drugs available to athletes, including steroids. But the same can be said about sports equipment, shoes, uniforms, technology used to train, etc. Try running a 40 in a pair of chuck taylors against someone running a 40 in a pair of Nike Shox. If Bonds did in fact take steroids, which I believe he did, it still takes an incredible amount of effort and hard work to acheive the things he did, even on roids. Yesterdays batters accomplished great things against yesterdays pitchers. Todays batters are up against, believe it or not, pitchers or performance enhancing drugs. It only makes sense to better yourself as the rest of the competition has done.

So it's OK because everyone else is doing it too?

we were so naive back then. we all laughed when sammy said all he was on was flintstone's vitamins. big mac at least admitted to taking something, though it wasn't banned or illegal in baseball.

The roids also allow thecheater to remain productive in their twilight years. Until your body completely give out of course.

When McGwire broke the record it was not known to the general public how prevalent performance enhancing drugs were in MLB. His claim that he only used supplements was more believable then.

This is the other attitude gets at my nerves - because racism has nothing to do with it, yet somehow it always becomes the topic of conversation... Get a clue instead of getting baked. People don't bash Big Mac as much because (1) he's retired, and (2) he's not breaking the career home run record.

Notice how that has absolutely nothing to do with his skin color.

We're racist because we don't want one black guy to break another black guy's record.

i personally don't care, but if he has done steroids, than even if he does break the record it should be null and void

Racism might be part of it for some, but the difference between Big Mac and Bonds is that Mac was a guy the fans could love; Bonds doesn't give a rats ass about anyone but himself.

Well, when all of your competitors in your career/industry, in this case baseball, are gaining an advantage over you, why wouldnt you do the same?

And like I said already, steroids are bad for you is a big stereotype. There are long term risks involved, but if it's done correctly, the benefits outweigh the risks involved. Most people associate steroids to evil because of the media and what they learn in middle school and high school, yet none of them actually know anything about the subject.
