What I want to know is, is it worth it to drop $20 on these fans when you can grab any old 120mm fan off Newegg for $5? I have a CM case that's got a meshed front so I can hear the fans as they are and I would like to have a quiet one. This one seems to have gotten good reviews over the internet, but it's still quite expensive.

Should I get?

I have 1 and even @1200RPM its virtually silent (off course it has lower CFM than my Scythe S-Flex1600RPM but its not bad) - its really good fan for silent rig.

YL's might be great fan's but to him a decibel rating of 33 might be too noisy for him(The medium speed one you linked too) so he might be more interested in the low speed version or even vantec stealth fans(second link).

Yea definitely looking for quieter fans because noise escapes my particular case very easily.

I'm also checking out the 1200RPM one. Can you feel the airflow though? After all, why put a fan there "if it don't flow".

Yeah I can feel airflow (my estimate is its about 2/3 of Scythe S-Flex1600RPM).

I actually prefer the Noctuas over Nexus fans. I have a pair of these in my Antec P180 case and I chose them because the SilentPCReview said they pushed more air than most fans while staying fairly quiet. But I paid $15 Canadian for each, that seems a bit expensive to me.

hey op, just trust me on the yates. There cheap, but buy one and check it out, b4 you spend 20 dollars on a single fan.

Im running almost 500 dollars in watercooling eq. So i basically spared no expense. The fans cooling all my radiators have always been yates. Why? because they perform much greater then silentX and also there far cheaper.

And i honestly recomend the High speed versions and you place them on fan controlers. Getting however many fans you need + a sunbeam rheobus will still be cheaper then you getting 2 Noctuna fans, or even 2 nexus fans.

Also NEXUS fans are just regabb'ed 705 version yates. So i dont see the need to spend 20 dollars on ANY fan.

Just take my word for it. B4 you press the buy buttom, try out a yate high speed and place it on a mobo header and have it controled though speedfan, or though bios. If your not happy with it, then go out and get a noctuna. If you do it the other way, you'll cry like my friend masaville on XS.

I used one of these on my previous Ultra-120...while it was quiet, it didn't push much air. I'd rather get an S-Flex fan.

aigomoria,

So you're saying the 33dBa rating on the Yates is an exaggeration in the wrong direction? 1600RPM is about the speed I'm looking for.
Running an mATX rig so not really much room for a rheobus, and don't have any more fan power slots on the mobo.

I suppose I will check it out...although the "engineering" going into the Noctua fans was really drawing me in.

That's what drew me in as well. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that well. Mine actually developed a slight rattle. Fortunately I've switched to water cooling now.

Sorry for the two week old bump but NCIX has these on sale for 11.99 so I was curious as to how good they are from a user perspective.

I don't understand all rabid fanboyism for Yates fans that I see in some of these threads have these people even tried Noctua's or Nexus? To me the Yates sound annoyingly loud if you are sitting within 4' of your computer. I am running two Yates fans in my P180 and even at 9v I can hear them from the hallway in my house.

If you read the two articles below the Noctua's are substantially quieter while pushing considerably more CFM. If your going to spend 1,000+ on your system $25 on good quality fans should be a no brainer
