Hello,

I'm sure my title is confusing to any discerning overclockers in the audience. What Im trying to accomplish is exceptionally sufficient cpu cooling that Noctua offers without purchasing the oversized NH-D14 series . My reason is mainly because I want to install the Corsair Vengeance memory and this is not possible w/ the NH-D14.

What if I stack an additional fan on top of the existing fan(or maybe even 2) on the NH-C12 P14 and set fans to blow upward. Will I receive sufficient cooling to the NH-D14.

This is my only method that I can do with Corsair heatspreaders conflicting with the NH-D14's size.

*****So what do you guys think? Will I be able to exceed overclocking in excess of 4.2-5.0Ghz and still maintain low temps with a dual stacked Noctua NH-C12 P14?*****

Below are both products for comparison at a glance. I welcome all replys and comments on this matter and hope to get some great feedback.

I am using the Cooler Master HAF X case so should not have issue with space.

Note: If anyone has recommendations for other CPU heatsinks that rival the Noctua-D14 cooling ability and compatible with the Corsair Vengeance I would like to see any links others may have to offer on those too.

what cpu you using?

i think the C wont offer as much dissipation as much as the D. i am guessing you want a SB chip, 4.2 is no question, that is possible on stock cooler. for 5.0 i would imagine that either both are adequate, or both are inadequate.

My Noctua NH-U12P SE2 covers one of my memory slots. Corsair Vengence is too big to fit under my cooler.

Yep. I also have the NH-U12P-SE2 cooler. I went with Corsair XMS RAM to avoid the height problem. I had to remove one fan to get the RAM into the slot closest to the CPU, but once it was in the slot, the fan fit back in place with no problems.

IMO, the tall cooling fins are more marketing than effective. MAYBE, if you're trying to wring every last bit of "oomph" out of your RAM they'd be worthwhile, but for most of us...they just look cool but don't really do much. As long as you have good air flow in your case, RAM without heat sinks or even with minimal heat spreaders will do just fine.

this x2, except you should install ram first to avoid any fan removal

I always "build & boot" starting with ONE stick of RAM...and of course, the ideal slot to start with is the second slot from the CPU...or the farthest from the CPU. <shrug> With the Noctua coolers, it's not difficult...two spring clips hold the fan in place.

Well I am running them at the full 1600 with the timings I have listed. I was going to get the shorter Dominators that would have matched my PSU. But the Vengence were cheaper by a good deal.

Next time I'll probably just go with a Corsair A70.

I'm running my XMS RAM at 1600 as well...but a bit slower timings. 9-9-9-24 I'm not much of an overclocker and other than setting the RAM to use the XMP profile, I haven't mucked about in the RAM settings.
