AVG is OK NOD is better. Kaspersky is even better than NOD.

Kaspersky is not better. NOD32 is one of the fastest and most thorough antiviruses out there.

I've used NOD32 for over 4 years now and I absolutely swear by it.
I love it so much that I install it on the systems of ALL my family members and people I care about.
My motive is VERY selfish...I hate trying to answer hair on fire phone calls from them when their AV programs ask them questions they're afraid to answer.
I set up NOD32 to the specs from the Wilder Security site and in silent mode on NOD32 setup and voila...no panic phone calls.

Pros

• Extremely efficient...does not chew up system resources

• Absolutely no virus/malware problems on ANY of the numerous systems I've installed it on

• Very happy relatives and clients

Cons

• It's probably the only one that you actually can't get for free(free or free after rebates) but to me, it's worth every single penny.

The bottom line is the bottom line.
It does it's job and does it extremely well.
I picked up 2 of this deal a couple weeks ago to have spares ready.

Note that Kaspersky was causing some weird problems in Vista (file copy limits). I'm not entirely sure whether or not that has actually been fixed at this point.

I'll stick with NOD32 -- they are both great so just get something you like and that doesn't take up all your resources.

I have used both Kapersky and NOD32..both are great but I disagree, I found KAspersky to more of resource "hog" vs NOD32..and it was slower

I only used Kapersky AV...no other crap

For me now, until someone shows me Kaspersky is "significantly better" I will stick with NOD32 and common sense

Neither is a resource hog, have you tried version 7? You might have been experiencing the strange kaspersky slowdown bug that hits a minority of users when mail protection is enabled (or at least that is what it points to, I have been unable to replicate the problem myself).

For me now, until someone shows me Kaspersky is "significantly better" I will stick with NOD32

Well, I could link a few malware detection rate tests from the following websites.


At av-comparatives.org , (although their next test is scheduled for late august, their current one is from February 2007) Kaspersky beat nod32 by **not allowed to post (only to link to the website), please see the february 2007 on demand comparative results**

At PCWorld, Kaspersky beat nod32 by 6%

At AV-Test.org, Kaspersky beat nod32 by 9.32%

Also bear in mind that Kaspersky updates their definitions every hour, so you have a quick new threat response time.


Kaspersky Antivirus (the real one) and Kaspersky Internet Security are both free (after MiR) right now

Not anymore. AOL switched to a McAfee system. Still free, though...

As for NOD32 vs KAV. I've been reselling KAV for about a year and although it's VERY good at what it does, it requires more resources than NOD32. I don't put it on systems with less than 512MB RAM and a 2Ghz CPU.
