Hey just wanted to get your guys input on a letter I'm writing, all input is welcome.

Good Morning Apartment Management Company,

The people in 9999 apt 666 make noise all day, starting at 6am to 9pm there is constant noise daily of people running around, heavy things being dropped and furniture being moved/rearranged and cleaned to the point where it literally shakes my apartment and the noise gets through the ear plugs. In general, they walk with a heavy foot equivalent to someone walking around with boots on a wooden floor. This in inconsiderate as you can walk around quietly on a wooden floor without making noise yet they have carpet and still make thumping noises every time they walk. One of them often does walk around quietly but that is only 1 out of 6 people, I know that this person is walking because I hear the usual understandable and expected creaking of the floor. The creaking is not the noise I am complaining about. It is the much louder noises like the kids running back and forth across the entire apartment, things being dropped and shows being thrown in the mornings. I get home at 9pm and get to sleep by 11pm or midnight and get up around 10am. These guys make noise every chance they get, at 2-4am whenever their 4 kids get up to use the restroom they walk loudly and I don't know why they feel the need to drop a heavy piece of furniture every time they get up.

Kids will be kids and it is impossible to expect behavior out of them all the time but it is a parent’s job to have control, influence and tact over their kids a majority of the time. However, when the mother figure herself also makes noise 24/7 by walking around with heavy foot and hammering things almost the entire day and dropping things nonstop I fail to see how the kids will learn from her example.

I have shown these guys ridiculous amounts of consideration and respect. When they first moved in they had a valid complaint that the TV noise around 10pm was bothering them so I started using headphones. Completely valid and understood. Even though you could barely hear the TV noise outside of the den. At 9pm if I ever watch tv I use headphones. The next issue happened when once or twice a week I would talk on the phone at night at a regular speaking voice in the den. I was not yelling, was not using any vulgar or obscene language. One time I giggled because I got a funny text message and they started banging on the floor. A ridiculous complaint but once again I gave these guys some consideration and respect and quit talking at night a little over a month ago. Also just to add my voice level was a little bit lower than what I use when I’m speaking to John Smith in the rental office when he is sitting in front of me. They made this complaint by banging on the floor.

Kids will be kids but thumping, dropping and moving of furniture and heavy equipment, running around the entire apartment are not normal daily respectful behaviors. This is an apartment building not a playground. And all day for some strange reason there is cleaning and reorganization going on in the entire apartment and dropping/slamming of heavy items in the kitchen. All day.

These guys seem to think that because they work for the apartment complex they can do anything they like, in addition to their disrespect and inconsideration of noise here are a few more examples. I was talking to the painter that lives upstairs a few weeks ago about the noise coming from his apartment and his reply was “I work for big boss, I complain about you and get you kicked out of here since I employee of big boss”. When one of the other neighbors upstairs are listening to music or watching tv (apt 665 or 667) all of 666 starts running around and making noise like crazy, 6 people walking back and forth through the entire apartment with heavy feet sounds like bombs going off in a distant warzone at 11pm. Another example, a few weeks ago I saw an interaction between the kids from apt 666 (the painter’s kids) and the African American kid that hangs out with 667’s son and Abraham's daughter. The painter’s kids were making fun of him and calling him Negro.

These guys in 666 seem to think they can do whatever they want, please bring them back down to Earth. This is not a playground or the wild wild west, it is an apartment building and frankly the laundry room is a mess ever since he painted it. There is paint everywhere.

This has been going on for a few months, I have complained about it various times and as requested I am writing this letter. I would like consideration to be returned and this excess of noise not to be made before 10am as we all work different hours. Or ideally I would like a different apartment.

Thank you,

George Washington,
9999 Apt 123

Holy wall-o-text, butthurt!

That's part of apartment life...inconsiderate neighbors.

You need serious help with your English. The way you expressed your arguments make absolutely no sense.

Find a friend who can write proper English, discuss your grievances with him and get him to write the complaint letter for you.

You're on SSRI's right? Sounds like my mom being unable to sleep because of birds chirping "in the wall", she was on them too. Reality is you just have insomnia.

Also I don't see the point in writing a letter since you already complained a bunch of times already in just a couple months. Also pretty typical of SSRI's, hah. Oh well. Their problem not mine.

And everyone needs to tell you the obvious "You need to move" because for whatever reason new ideas are very slow to generate.

Anyways cheers good luck with life.

Your first step ought to be to go in and talk to the apartment manager about the noise problem you're having. Without getting into blaming your upstairs neighbors, you might just say that you didn't realize that downstairs apartments could be so noisy and then ask when it would be possible to move into a top floor unit. IMHO you have a better chance of a good outcome if you bring a solution along with the problem.

Writing letters without first talking means you're socially retarded. I agree with PowerEngineer, go in and talk to the management. Don't worry or be scared, human interaction won't hurt you.

That said, you're living in an apartment. Tons of inconsiderate assholes are going to be all around you, save your ass some grief (and money) and save for a house.

I have, management asked me to write this letter, he got upset when I confronted him about why nothing was being done. He implied his brother is the one that brought these guys in and he want's me to write this letter and he will pass it on to him. I talk to management on almost a daily basis and have a pretty good relationship with him compared to almost every other person that lives here doesn't know how to talk to him. I don't blame them though. He is super strange. I gotta figure out some fafsa stuff, it might just be better to get a house and rent it out.

I don't get why everyone always assumes the worst of OP on these forums, the trend seems to be to attack the OP. Guilty until proven. No just guilty. Guilty they said.

I don't know why but this guy has had empty apartments sitting for years and he always tells people there is a 2 year waiting list. The apartment above me was empty for 6+ years. For no reason other than it needed to be painted.

Indeed. I took an English paper into the writing center one time, the paper had changed from white to red by the time we got done.

Don't most apartments have a contract that lasts a year at least?
If the OP is in the beginning of that cycle, he could be subject to heavy fines.

As for the OP, record the problem, and then show it to whom you are writing the letter to.

Unfortunately nothing can really be done. I doubt anyone is even going to read that. At least make it short. Like, 2 paragraphs max, and by paragraph I don't mean Trump Wall sized paragraphs either.

No one will read that. It's better to make it a short letter.
I read all of it and assure you I haven't laughed so well in days.

Makes me glad I don't live in an apartment and no longer share my house. My house was never so bad when I had roommates. I have noise issues with neighbors, but this post makes them pale. Silicon ear plugs and/or my Bose noise cancelling earphones handle that stuff pretty well. Etymotics ear buds, at times. Just a radio or stereo other times. Or, if I am not in the mood for that stuff I just suffer whatever. There are construction noises a lot of the time, trucks at times, folks who play video games and laugh like lunatics, dogs barking, kids messing around, planes, helicopters, trains, whatever. And my hearing ain't so good, but good enough to be bugged. I try not to bug my neighbors, it's bad karma.

Edit: OP, going back and reading the whole thread I think that if you "play your cards right," you have a good chance of being allowed to move into a better apartment in your complex. Maintain a continuous dialog with the management. Long term, keep in mind a strategy that has you moving out of the complex altogether eventually.

Just copy/paste.

Dear Apartment Management Company,

I would like to complain about the tenant that lives in apartment #666. They constantly make loud noise and shit. Please for the love of GOD! evict these grabasse's or I'll have the Chicago Outfit rearrange your face and force you to pay protection.

PS. Would you like a louisville slugger or a tire iron?

Yours truly,
one pissed off rent paya.

PPS. Your wife would make a great prostitute.

I'm just kidding of course. Just use the ol' military acronym, KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Make it two paragraphs maximum and that is all. Do this, post here and we'll proof read it.

And a paragraph is at least five sentences. I wouldn't even go over that.

Way too much detail in that letter. Nobody cares if there are 5 or 6 people that you can hear walking around. Nobody cares that you hear 3-4 kids going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I also think that 10am is too late to expect people to "be quite" for.

You also sound like a pushover (no offense). I mean not talking on your phone or watching TV in your own apartment after 9pm? GTFO of here, especially with the way the other tenants are acting and not doing anything about it. You clearly are afraid of any kind of confrontation, which is why you wrote this 10 page letter that no one is going to read. It also sounds like management didn't want to deal with you, so they told you go go write a letter (that they know no one will read) just to get you out of their hair for a little bit, knowing that you won't do anything since they already know you're a pushover.

Either sack up and go talk to your neighbors face to face, and if that doesn't do anything talk to management again, and if that doesn't do anything, call the police. If none of that works, move out.

nobody cares about your letter - whether short or in its current War and Peace form.

What is your goal here? To complain? To move to a different apartment? To break your lease? You're not going to get these people to change how they walk, so what is it you are looking for?

Assuming you have a realistic goal, my suggestion is find a lawyer friend and ask him/her to write the letter for you. It might just scare management enough to help you. Any letter you write is going to be ignored and thrown away immediately.

he was told by management to write the letter. There are times when a written complaint is needed to get things done. It's also required if legal issues arise.
