Is the headphone jack properly grounded? Seems electrical noise is working its way through the internal USB and audio cables.

Electrical noise / interference. Depends on the quality of the case, motherboard etc.

Try the 3.5mm port at the back of the motherboard. If it's a pain to get to, run a short 3.5mm male to female extension cable to the front of the case and use that. That one is likely to be more isolated.

In a PC, this is almost never the case, especially for front ports. 0V is generally carried from the motherboard out to the front panel, along with the signals.

I just tried it with my rig (sig) and I didn't get any noise. Probably boils down to the components. At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

Not that they're all noisy; that they're usually not grounded (there's not much reason to ground it, and it could create a loop carrying unwanted DC currents if done, if the audio common off a bit from the case). I suspect the noise is either from sharing the 0V traces on the board with USB 0V, or having those traces really close, allowing for induced noise.

Try using the back USB ports for the flash drive, or the usb port furthest away from the headphone jack. USB 3 devices can cause interference.
