noisy fan, any tips?

The fan on my TNT2 just started making an annoying buzzing sound, it's driving me crazy... Does anyone have any fan cleaning tips? Thanks.

I gotta go get some of that stuff REAL soon. I hate the noises those things make these days. Actually...the solid state high quality fans they used to make never made those noises. I think there is some kind of marketing scam going on with fan makers and compressed air companies... But, ohh well....I guess I'll have to give in to have a squeaky clean fan.

Hey, I just noticed my Viper V770 Ultra started buzzing too. However, I know it's not dirty cuz I just blew out my case. I think the fan's going bad after a year...pretty sad. I thought I was getting some reliable stuff. I might pop off the assembly and get a new heatsink/fan combo...crap

A close examination of most fans will reveal a little sticker that can be peeled off, exposing the bearings. Sometimes there is also a little rubber plug that is used to take up end play. Apply a drop of oil to the bearings. As strange as it may seem I have had the best luck with 30W machine oil. Clean up with a little solvent and reapply the sticker. Years ago you could buy a muffin fan lube kit that included a hypodermic needle loaded with oil that you could just pierce the sticker with. I guess they had to quit selling it when too many people tried to shoot up with it.

I'm guessing that it's due to dust. See if you can remove the fan and clean it. Try reversing the fan.

There are problems with the fans of the Viper 770, it is in Diamond's FAQ. Mine stopped working completely. I'm not gonna bother fixing it though, cause I'm getting a new card soon anyway.

gosh darn it...so they know. why can't they set up a toll free number? well, guess i'm gonna have to take mine apart. if i can't fix it, i'll just sell this card and get myself that geforce pro.
