Just saying...

Been running one as my full time phone now for 2 weeks and all I can say is WOW. Added 128GB SD card to make it perfect. I know WP haters will hate but if anyone would've given this phone a chance it could've made a big impact.

I never thought I wanted a phablet, I was wrong.

I hate that phablet for one reason:

I dropped it and cracked my screen

On the positive side, I have a Lumia Icon now and it's amost as good, though with a few different tradeoffs:
- 5 inch screen (large enough, but 6" does come in handy - also easier to hold and use)
- matte, rectangular body (instead of the sleeker - and more slippery - body of the 1520)
- I think the speaker volume is slightly lower (1520 beats the M7 in volume, but not clarity... not sure about the M8, didn't have them concurrently to test)
- no MicroSD
- battery life isn't anywhere near as good as the 1520, which lasts more than a day with moderate to heavy usage

And even someone like me who didn't like phablets at all prior to the 1520 got used to it pretty quickly. Only complaint from me is the glossy back - much prefer matte - and the screen does strain the fingers a little if you use it a lot one-handed. Not really major issues considering how good a device it is otherwise.

The camera in the 1520 and Icon is fantastic. Android has just started to get cameras around the same level.

It's funny that using microSD is actually an easier affair on Windows Phone than Android since KitKat. Just put it in and it asks you if you want to use it to store photos, documents, apps, etc. No jumping through hoops to install apps to the card. Of course, Windows Phone lacks in other customization/access options since you can't root or flash a ROM, but it's smoother than anything and offers a much nicer UI than either Android or iOS, in my opinion. I know others will disagree and the apps situation is still lagging behind Android (let alone iOS), but it's worth it and the apps situation has gotten markedly better. Plus there's a lot of movement and push behind better web apps and mobile responsive sites that work as well or nearly as well as native apps... though there's still work to be done.

I think it's a pretty sweet phone, but I wouldn't call it the best phone EVAR. It's mostly just because of the size (only so many people want 6-inch phones) and the OS. Windows Phone is mature now, but some people just prefer a different OS or want apps they can't get on that platform.

Me, my ideal Windows Phone would be a slimmer 930 with a faster camera and an upgraded CPU (Snapdragon 801 or 805, most likely).

Micro SD usage is definitely many times easier then Android. I had been using the Nokia 1020 and GS5 for the past few months or so. Loved the 1020 for Office and photos of course, loved the GS5 for media consumption and apps. 1520 is a perfect mix of the two for me.

Slimmer 930 + Snapdragon 810 + microSD = instant purchase. :whiste:

Oh, and availability on my carrier please. Ugh. Or pull a Nexus and have a single model on all 4 carriers. Apple's done it (iPhone 6). Google's done it (Nexus 6). Please, Microsoft, do it too?

I have a 928 that I'm really happy with even now coming up on 2y after release. I think I can upgrade in like... April?

I think I would echo the desire for a 930 refresh more than the 1520, but yeah, what I can get is probably determined more by what's on Verizon than what's actually released lol. Currently it looks like Verizon is still carrying pretty much the same three Windows phones they had when I got my 928 plus the HTC One M8 now.

1520 is just too big for me. Something like the 930 would be a much more "perfect" phone for me. That and if Windows phone had more apps. Right now my lumia is my secondary.

There is actually a limited way to flash ROMs that exists now through Nokia Care Suite. I just flashed my ATT 920 to the Rodgers (Canadian) ROM.

I don't know much about the functionality, probably limited to official Nokia ROM's. I'm surprised that XDA hasn't came up with something yet, probably not enough demand to justify the time involved.

Does it have a HotSpot function? If not, it is not the best phone ever.

Still have mine! Been using my Note 4 but I come back to my 1520 all the time. I've yet to develop my app for WP...

It's definitely on my radar, but overall the iphone is probably better. I've read a lot about it and I want it, but can't justify spending $250 on it right now (ebay price) while I still have perfectly fine working devices.

The camera looks interesting, but from what I hear it is only marginally better than the iphone camera while being significantly slower, due to the software steps to crunch down the image from 20mpxl to 5mpxl.

yeah, I love my windows phone- still using a 822. I'd like something a bit bigger but I need something on Verizon since I still have the unlimited data plan but there are not that many Windows phones for Verizon. I guess an Icon would be a step up in size and speed... It just needs to have a great camera since I use it several times a day for business.

No it's not.

3)Ugly metro tiles/colorful/lame, etc, etc
4)Windows Phone OS in general = meh/eww
5)Steve Ballmer/Satya Nadella - both nincompoops
6)Cannot install Android

Pros:

1)Big
2)Nice camera

No it's not.

Cons:

1)No good games on Widows Phone OS/Very poor selection of good games
(Games on a phone? I guess this is important to some people, I see most of the top 25 games on Android on WP now and MS just bought Minecraft)
2)No good apps on Windows Phone OS/Very poor selection of good apps
(This is a lame but typical excuse anymore. Like I said, I used and Android along with my 1020 for months, now using 100% WP and can't think of an app I lost that I actually USED)
3)Ugly metro tiles/colorful/lame, etc, etc
(Seriously? As apposed to the endless walls of icons? Guess you haven't seen the new 8.1 options)
4)Windows Phone OS in general = meh/eww/
(Can't afford a device to actually try it out on or what? I haven't met a single person that said the OS itself sucked after trying it.)
5)Steve Ballmer/Satya Nadella - both nincompoops
(OK, as apposed to the other winners running major corporations? Is this how you select which brands to buy? If so, I hope you're riding a bicycle, making your own cloths and living out of your mother's basement because all CEO's are the same. )
6)Cannot install Android
(LOL, you got me here.)

Pros:

1)Big
2)Nice camera

(You missed:
1.Built in Office. Yes, I'm a grown up so having a real version of Excel and Outlook is important.
2.Xbox SmartGlass intergration with Xbox and Xbox One
3..... I give up..

nothing else...

Yikes. I'm 100% sure you've never used a Windows device. No problem though, keep playing with your toys and carry on.

1. Featured Xbox Games selection is much better than wading through 5 million surgery, salon, and candy crush games on Android
2. App selection is legit complaint, but not much different than Android was 2 years ago. Hilarious to hear Android people use the same argument Apple fans used, though. There are enough apps to do what most people want, but WP is indeed behind in apps. It's Google being a holdout that hurts more than anything.
3. Yeah, that's why the other two big OS' keep moving closer and closer to Microsoft's colorful, flat design...
4. Not worth addressing
5. Ditto
6. I like Android almost as much as Windows Phone, but Windows Phone has it's advantages like less worrying about updates, with Developer Preview being easy to enable.
Also:
- No TouchWiz crapping up any Windows Phones
- All non-core apps are removable on all Windows Phones (making carrier bloat nil or easy to remove)
- Can easily install apps to microSD
- Wakelocks are less of an issue (in my experience)

You clearly haven't used Windows Phone or used it enough/recently to be commenting on it, because - no offense intended - your criticisms are rather childish (or maybe your sense of humor just blows ). I've used both WP and Android enough to know there are tradeoffs and advantages both, as most reputable reviewers acknowledge.

Below are a few of just the Featured games... and there's a lot more, but I didn't feel like copying them all. Feel free to peruse their collection.

I have about 25 games or so myself, all good. What I have on my phone right now, and I don't even game that much:

Halo: Spartan Assault, Final Fantasy, Rabbids Bing Bang, Kinectimals, Mass Effect: Infiltrator, Mind Games, Nightmares From The Deep, Physi Bricks, Jetpack Joyride, Death Worm, Bridge Constructor, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Doors, Radiant Defense, Rail Rush, Reaper, Rise of Glory, RISK, Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Wordament, Sonic CD, Plants vs Zombies, Cut The Rope, Chess4All, and Impossible Shoota.

There are a LOT more games I could get, but I don't have the time to play all the ones I already have.

I have a few Android games, as well, and honestly I don't feel like I'm deprived of games on either platform:
Pocket Tanks, Dope Wars Classic, Toca Hair Salon, Robot Unicorn Attack 2, Doodle Jump, Galaxy on Fire 2, Glow Hockey, Fruit Ninja Free, Dumb Ways to Die, Dead Trigger 2, Riptide GP2, Landrule Strategy, RoboCop, Bridge Constructor, Zombie Gunship, 100 Ballz, Plague Inc, Divide and Conquer

I really wanted the 1520 (or rather the device it was originally supposed to be and not the gimped derivatives we got in the US) but couldn't wait any longer and ended up with a Note 3. I like the Note quite a lot but think I'd have been happier with one of the Nokias although they're certainly not perfect.

I would love for Microsoft to make a Lumia Pro phablet and make it a serious Note competitor (with good digitizer).

I would love that. A Lumia Pro (Surface Lumia? Hopefully with a better name than that) to compete against the Notes. OneNote really needs a pen/stylus on WP to be as good as it is on tablets with digitizers.

If the next 1020 successor were 5.5 to 6.0" and had a pen and an excellent camera, I think it would really be a potential Note killer.

It's sad there aren't any other serious competitors to the Galaxy Note. Samsung did a good job with that line - you would think there would be a few takers given their success with it. Simply larger phones don't count.

Re: Lumia Pro/Surface Lumia names

Saw a leak on WPC out of China today with MS branding all over a new phone. Urgh.

Why these tards are allowed to walk around with guns loaded and fingers on the trigger pointed at their feet all the time is beyond me.

You got the Lumia name. Way to not use it. You have a choice between Microsoft (old, stodgy, butt of jokes name) and Windows (you are trying to tie together all the screens, right?)

Lumia on the front (instead of Nokia). Windows/logo on the back (discreet).

Boom.

(of course, it's yet another one with no camera button, as they try to out Android at being Android while not bringing half the benefits to the table. I'm not looking forward to where I'm gonna be in a few years)

I never owned a windows Phone. but used it several times. Several friends have them.

Yes, I admit, the games selection is very very important on a mobile phone for me. After all, one has to do something on the train when it takes 1.5 hours to get to work!

Windows Phone is nowhere near iOS or Android when it comes to games. Where is Walking Dead? Wolf Among Us? Infinity Blade? Trials? Deadspace, Grand Theft Auto, The Room, Bard's tale, Baldur's Gate, Shadowrun Returns... WHERE ARE THEY?! Some of the best mobile games ever created are... Missing...

There is something about the colorful tiles that really irritates me. All that screaming ultra bright red and green... It's like someone with a very bad taste tried making a Christmas tree. Android is NOT moving in that direction. Yes, they are changing colors and they are "flattening" the look of certain things but it's nowhere like Windows Phone OS.

Wakelocks being less of an issue, being able to remove bloat and moving apps to the SD card is awesome. I didn't know that...

But there is not a single Windows Phone that allows you to write like the Note does ; )
