<<<In two to three years, we'll all realize how silly a 21" CRT is, and be buying 18" to 20" LCDs
instead.>>

"(I just bought an 18" Philips LCD for about $960, hooked up my Evga Ti200 with digital cable, loaded
23.10 drivers, and played Nvidia demo on Cd - you'll never go back man! And Viewsonic has a 23" LCD now. I only can shake my head at people buying 80 lb monitors.) "

That's a $600 difference, friend. Not everyone can justify that additonal cost to save 70 lbs. I only can shake my had at people buying $960 monitors when in 1-2 years it'll be about $300.

Does anyone have the 19" 446pro listed here? That one's only $245 and it weighs a lot less. From the specs at Cnet.com, it supposedly supports 1600x1200@85hz. Is this one a good one? Thanks!

I hope it's good - I went ahead and pulled the trigger to buy one, since my old Hitachi 17" seems to be at death's door. The 446Pro sounds essentially similar to a G400, and seems like a good deal at this price.

i got this monitor from costco, its nice. screen is perfectly flat, the refresh rates are great for playing games, dop pitch is nice, image quality is good although you definitely may need to readjust the horizontal and vertical convergience as it may blur things if not set good.. and this thing is a bitch for carryin around... fd trinitron weights a lot more i think

If it makes you feel better, your post enticed me to buy one of the 446Pros, so thanks!

Bandwidth for the Nokia 19" 440pro is only 230mhz which is not the highest you can get. I've been reading about monitor bandwidth, and a high bandwidth is necessary to display higher resolutons. Even if it says it support 1600x1200, you may not be able to use it on the 19" monitor because of insuffient bandwidth. If you need for graphics drawing or whatever, individual lines may not be viewable with insuffient bandwidth. Does anyone actually have this monitor and run it at 1600x1200@85hz?

btw...Where is the link to the 21"? Are they all gone? I only see the 19".

Yes, I bought the 446pro about 2 years ago and it is great. At the time I compared it to the
various Sony models and (again at the time) Sony was having a horrendous time
with quality control and returns.

I ran the ntest.exe when I got the monitor and it passed every test with no problems.

I also use this monitor alot (16-18 hours a day) and it doesn't give me problems.
As a IT consultant I do have to use other peoples equipment and I _do_ notice right away when
I have used other poorly functioning monitors (either cheap monitors or poorly performing
'good' monitors (a NEC M50 for example)).

Good luck

I got mine today... and I think it looks great compared to my 21" Dell(non-trinitron), but... it is defective... it has 2 very very fine lines, one 1/4 down from top, the other 1/4 up from bottom across the width of the screen. What a shame, and they're not in stock anymore so I'm gonna lose in this deal I think...

That's not a defect. That's trinitron for ya. Every trinitron monitor "features" those great lines. Don't worry bout it, before long, you won't even notice them.

When did you order? I am still awaiting my 446Pro. As the others have already observed, those lines are perfectly normal and a necessary part of the Trinitron design.

Yeah, I hear ya as far as the lines are concerned. I have not previously used a Trinitron monitor for any extended period, but I know virtually everyone who does comes to feel that the superior brightness and definition of the Trinitron design outweighs the minor distraction of those fine gray lines. I doubt they will bother me nearly as much as the flickering of my dying Hitachi Super Scan Elite 630 (itself a high-end monitor back in 1998 when I got it - I am disappointed that it is wearing out this quickly).

Dudes those lines aren't part of the design!!! They are a defect so large in scale that the goverment doesn't want to tell you what those lines mean!! But I, risking life and limb will tell ya what they are all about, they are an early indication your monitor is about to go thermal nuclear...I know I am not trying to panic ya, you probably have 3-6 months before this occurs. Solution? Thats where I come in, I can come and SAFELY remove the monitor from your residence. And here is the best part, I WON'T charge you for the removal or disposel of the monitor. The only thing I do charge for is transportation to and from your residence, and if the wife of your could cook me a meal that would be great (I like turkey dinners, baring that PB&J sandwhich will do). Man I am glad I am here for you, you wouldn't want to clean up your house or nieghborhood after the TNE, for those not in the business of saving the world that stands for thermal nuclear explosion. Oh ya book me early, cause I feel I am gonna be busy here real soon!!!

Those lines are not from Trinitron technology. They are from the Aperture Grille. They are shadows from the dampeners that keep your display stable. Without them, your display would be constantly shimmering. You can get a non-Aperture Grille flat screen monitor by purchasing one that incorporates Shadow Mask technology, but you will be sacrificing image and color quality. I have a Viewsonic P95F and it is, in my opinion, the best 19" monitor on the market. It has an Aperture Grille.

So did anyone get the 19" Nokia 446PRO? I just checked again, and they still have them at $245 + 43 ship. Shipping is kind of high. Whoever has it, could you give your opinions?

I ordered the 19" 446PRO. After a few days, they emailed me to tell me it was on back order and asked if I wanted to cancel or wait. I wrote back and asked how long the wait would be. When they did not answer as quickly as I wished, I called and asked and was told to call back on Wednesday, that they'd know then how long it might take.

A few minutes after I called I got an email saying they had no "ETA" on the units and that they had cancelled my order. I promptly wrote back and said don't do that, but have not received a further reply. I intend to call again on Wednesday but, at this point, I am not holding my breath.
