Nokia 33xx = Nokia 51xx ?

Somehow, as I walk though campus, all I see is Nokia 33xx series phones.

Then It hits me.... step back 2-3 yrs later....

All I see is Nokia 51xx series phones...


I have a strong feeling that the 33xx phone is just another budget phone. Or I'm just having a strange flashback.

Personally, I use an 82xx series phone.

Its probably because the phone is free, well usually, before all the companies where giving the 5100'a and how its the 3300's. not everyone pays for their phone.

yeah, the 33xx series is basicly a updated more compact 51xx phone.

fills in the market for free or near free phones.

The 33xx phones are too small, imho. I seriously want something that feels full-sized. (Dear lord, please don't let anybody take bits of that out of context )

Had a 51xx, which I liked. About the only thing I like about the 33xx is the internal antenna. Other than that, just gimme the big stuff.

yeah, the 82xx users from last year are set to start a new plan and get a new phone.

funny, lots of 82xx users when they go into the store get all confused that the current free model has a lower model number, 33xx, and they automatically assume their old phone was better and that the store was some how trying to rip them off. lol. i've seen this a few times. and when you kindly explain that the 33xx is newer, better reception, better battery life, better build quality, they don't always believe you.

when i bought my 3360 (i know, i know, bloody tdma service out in rochester, ny) it was not a budget phone, but i guess they are now

3390 = upgraded 51xx
3360 = upgraded 61xx or even 82xx

3360 is a full featured phone - it's not some featureless basic stuff like the 3390

Anyway, at least the 3360 has the IR port - of which neither the 51xx or 61xx series has. It also has the full featured left/right/up/down buttons. It may not be a full blown upgrade but it's not in the 51xx class - only the 3390 is

I like my 3360. I didn't want a cell phone at all at first, but the 3360 was small, and with the internal antenna, it goes easily in my pocket and doesn't take up too much space.

the 33xx is the new budget series thats replacing the old 51xx series
82xx is your mid to upper level phone, but its outdated. look for a new series to replace it soon.
88xx is top of the line Nokia in America, but even that is outdated.

The 3390 is lighter, has more games, has WAY more customizability, and is an entirely different technology from the 3360. They can't be compared, and your 51xx/61xx analogy sucks. The 61xx was light years ahead of the 51xx, the same can't be said for the 3360 over the 3390.

Yup, half of my school has this phone (mostly the 3360, because Cingular TDMA & AT&T are wildly popular here, while VS sucks). I had to get a Vesuvius Red Nokia cover to differerentiate mine from the rest, hehe. The 8200 series is getting a couple of upgrades: 8390 for GSM, is already available, and the 8265 is an upgrade to the 8260 (I'm gonna get this phone, my 3360 is too big, and it has better features). I just wish Nokia made some flip phones for the USA, I miss the flip of my StarTAC. Unfortunately the only decent TDMA flip besides a StarTAC is the v60t, which is way too much money and not userfriendly.

if you liked the 51xx or 61xx then you'll probably like the 6360 that's out already i think...since it ends with xx60, it's a TDMA phone so only AT&T and Cingular TDMA customers can get it.

it's basically a 51xx or 61xx in terms of size with an internal antenna, it seems to have pretty good features. check it out on nokia's site.

my dad stil has his 6190. he went to like a pcs store and asked if he could upgrade, and they were like, why would you wanna do that, its like the best phone out there. i've got a 3390. its a decent phone, i mean if you dont care too much how cool your phone is, it works great getsdecent reception. better than a lot of other phones anyways

I forget what make and model it was but....

Last year, my friends girl had this teeny tiny phone, a little smaller than the small 3 line motorola sports pager (the one that uses one triple A battery (AAA)).
It was about half as thin as my Nokia 8260 and about half the length only! :Q

She lost it a few months afterwards.

Games are a moot point. ANd what's this "WAY more customizability"? I own the 3390 myself, my cousin the 3360. Not that much of a difference between the two in customizing it. And regarding technology - if you're talking about GSM and TDMA then yea. The same thing can be said about certain models of the 51xx and 61xx too then. And I owned the 5170 & 6185 (both for Sprint) and the 5170 is considered suprerior to the 6185 in terms of call clarity, number of call drops, etc - the 61xx series isn't even close to being "light years ahead". The 3360 and 3390 is about the same in comparison to the 61xx and 51xx. If you don't like my analogy then that's your problem.
