Damn!, I should have gone with pac bell.

My AT&T $29.99 plan only included 250/500 min.

Pac Bell is much better, 150 anytime, unlimited weeknight/end

yootheman...i believe you cant. they get you on the activation fee. free phone with activation. you have an accouont so they dont get the fee so no free phone. just to let everone know, pacbell right now is offering "UNLIMITED NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS". i mean UNLIMITED. only available on certain plans. so if you have free long distance and UNLIMITED, you can call anywhere in the continental us for free. so everyone upgrade your plan.

i had the same question as you.. and i found out that you can "upgrade" your phone.. they will give you $150 credit of your phone.. so i.e. if 8290 cost $299 you just need to pay $149 for the phone..

With 150 anytime and unlimited weekend/night minutes, I'm going to be switching as soon as my promotional 3 month trial is up.

I got the 8890 for free and paid NO TAX on it either! The dealer covered the tax that I owed and gave the phone for free! Now that is what I call a bargain! My phone is in SoCal and is thru Pac Bell via MCI Worldcom. Basically, it is the same deal as Pac Bell, but MCI does the billing, but the phone is totally free!

There's no way that could have gone thru jonnysnakes, unless you meant the 8290. The 8890 is a $400+ worldband phone. No way they are giving those out free. Now if in fact you did get the 8890, please let me know where cuz I'm gonna jump on that too.

the only one i heard with the 8290 is my friend's place... the best they could do with the nokia 8290 is $60 with activation of 29.99 plan for 1 year. is that the best in San Diego or is there any better?

email me and lemme know.

I have Nokia's 8890 and I paid $200 + Tax on the phone. I got insurance on the phone but dealing with the insurance company sucks. Like someone previous stated, the insurance is carried by a third party. They basically asked how you lost your phone and your phone model and recommend you go to PacBell's PCS DIRECT store to PICKUP the phone. I picked up my phone in Ontario Mills and they were just rude jerks. First they told me to wait and then 30 minutes later they told me they didn't have my phone in stock (Nokia 6190). Insurance replacement DOESN'T MEAN YOU GET A NEW PHONE. You get a refurbished one from Nokia. That really mad me mad since I have my Nokia 6190 for 2 years and paid 2 years worth of insurance on it and they want to compesate me with a refurbished phone? I can understand this if I just lost my phone 2 days after I bought it but 2 years worth of insurance should get me a better phone. I just gave up on my Nokia 6190 and got a new Nokia 8890.

Wildthing,

The guy I went thru said that he did San Diego too. I can't verify this, but that is waht he said. This was for the 8290 (not the 8890 as I accidently wrote before).

hey guys, where's the place in Rowland Heights that has the phones for free? My mom and I went in to a cell phone place next to "Little Bean" across the street from Honk Kong Market. They said they could only give us the Nokia 6190 for free if we wanted to do the family plan. They would only give out the 8820 for free if we all got separate plans. Is this right? What other places in Rowland Heights are there that can hook me and my mom up with a good deal?

For those of you in California (or more specifically SoCal where those "asian shops" are), I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the Cingular NATION plans and if there are any deals for that. The $29.99 local deal sounds pretty good, but I'd like to have free roaming and long distance nationwide.. I'm looking at the $39.99 deal, but it doesn't mention if the minutes are just anytime or if there are extra minutes for nights/weekends. Thanks in advance.

Cingular is the new name that Pacbell is billing their customers under. I just got my bill for the last month a few days ago, but the envelope was addressed from Cingular instead of Pacbell now.

I really need to upgrade my plan. I'm still on the 90 free minutes, 1000 free weekends $29.99 plan.

vinnyracer - you get a CHOICE of either a. free m2m, b. free nights & weekends, c. extra 150 peak minutes. add two options instead of one for another 9.95

laxer - nation plans are only good if you travel like a whore outside of ca and nv. basically you get a set amount of peak minutes, and there is a flat rate fee for every additional minutes depending on your plan.

jimmygates - where did you get your 8890 for $200. thanks yo!

anybody found any good deals on 8890s in the SD or SF area yet? thanks.

Fatwallet has a thread going on a deal on the 8290 (or is it the 8260) in the bay area. It's ATT service with MCI billing. There are a couple of posts about MCI being sux.

I opened a new line at Wireless Lines and they gave me the phone for $200.

If you open up a new line, Pacbell will issue a rebate (I think $200) towards your phone. Not many people know this so they get duped into paying full price for the phone. The 8290 used to be $199 - $200 rebate for new line activation = Free. Since the rebate only covers the cost of the phone, you need topay the $199 tax. Thats why most phones are free now with new user signup. When you signup for a new phone using Pacbell, make sure to ask them about the rebate that comes with opening a new line. All the fools that work at PacBell's PCS Direct store try to jip you by not mentioning it

TurtleMan are you serious about them counting your minutes while the phone is still ringing? that's a cr@ck of $hit.

My mom just signed us up for a family plan at some place in San Gabriel. They gave us 3 3390 phones for free just to sign up, no rebates, no tax. But since I already have my 6190 and like it more than those phones, they wrote a check in the amount of $100 if we only took 2 phones and I kept using mine. We should have gotten more than $100 IMHO, but whatevers.

heres the best plan in my opinion...

the Home 300 plan from Cingular/Pacbell
with the 39.99 plan you get

Free long distance
Unlimited nights and weekends
Unlimited Text messaging,

and 300 day time minutes...
I just confirmed with a CSR from cingular.

Also the 29.99 plan sucks because you get
Free long distance or Unlimited nights and weekends
Only 150 day time minutes
Free text messaging.

Also ifyou want a nother option then it is 9.95. So basically you only get two options starting out 29.99 and adding 9.95

Also here are the numbers to the stores...
if anyone needs it...
562 865 6800 cerritos(ithink)
626 289 0068 alhambra
909 595 9797 walnut

I"m not sure if your allowed to post numbers... but i did anyways. I guess I will find out.

Also the phone is 26.00 or 27.00 for the Nokia 8200 (out the door)
$99.99 for the Timeport (my personal favorite) (tax might not be included)
$300.00 for the Nokia 8800 (i dont know whyits so much for this phone) (tax might not be included)
