You're right, 1080p isn't currently supported. Current resolutions are 800x480, 1280x720, and 1280x768. 1080p references to Windows Phone have been found in Visual Studio, and rumors point to GDR3 bringing 1080p support. I wouldn't be surprised if they also included 1920x1152 for the same reason 1280x768 was included.

The preview Anand has posted from the Zoom event was good, I was really interested to see the camera grip and they didn't disappoint with that at least imo. Very nice idea. I wish Nokia/WP (whomever is responsible) would get away from the AT&T exclusivity though.

Agreed. If they would bring this to Vzw , I would jump on it.

At this point, don't we think this is more Verizon's issue with carrying WP devices as opposed to Nokia or Microsoft wanting devices on Verizon?

Verizon seems to have this thing where they need devices that have some kind of difference in order to make the device unique to them.

They are selling the Lumia 928.

Exclusive to Verizon, like he said. I'm almost more leaning towards Nokia focusing on the international market and producing 1 variant for the majority of markets, leaving VZW and Sprint out in the cold and AT&T as the defacto US carrier. T-mobile has it's own variant of the 520 too so while I don't know a lot about GSM bands I don't think Nokia's default configuration includes everything T-mobile would need.

This is clearly what's going on. US carriers are all about "EXCLUSIVE TO VERIZON/SPRINT/AT&T," even when the phones are essentially the same. The 928 is clearly a variant of the 920, but it isn't advertised as such. Same with the Lumia 925.

Look at the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 lines; they're a mess when it comes to carrier variants.

Also, carriers don't really like the inability to bloat the OS. Android phones are starting to allow you to uninstall carrier bloatware, but it's been needed for a long time.

I want to like WP8, but the price and exclusivity nonsense is just not making it possible. I'm on T-mobile and what are my options? I may eventually get the 925, but for 600? No thanks. The 8X was nice, but where on earth did it go?

And the 1020 looks nice, but $300 on contract with at&t or $600? And will it only support at&t bands? Which may work on t-mobile, but depends on your area, so it may only be 2g if that's the case.

The Lumia 521 is an option, then. You can't beat it for $130.

$600 is pretty typical for a flagship device, anyway.

The Lumia 1020 isn't priced competitively, but I don't really think they could get away with heavy subsidies. The phone is a very niche product and likely can't sell enough units to justify a super low price.

I suppose the part that really annoys me is that full retail versions of the 8x (16gb version) and 920 are $450. Sadly, they're both locked to at&t. I guess I wouldn't be so annoyed if MS would sell them for those prices at their retail stores/site as unlocked GSM phones. AWS support would be nice, but even without it, they would be good deals. And mind you, they've always been at those retail prices, it wasn't through a price drop.

You know, that's a great idea for MS. Google is selling unlocked phones that support T-Mo and AT&T 100%. Why doesn't MS take up that idea of selling unlocked Windows Phones in their stores as well as on their website. That would give them an actual advantage over Google's.

This would be a great idea, but hasn't happened as of now because Microsoft is an absurdly disjoint company. The Office and gaming divisions have often showed their smartphone apps with an iPhone prominently showing, and a Windows Phone in the background or not even present. They've begun avoiding this in the last year or so, but it was kind of ridiculous.

With the restructuring just announced, hopefully they'll be able to function together.

I bought a Nokia 822 off ebay for 150.00. Great phone with pretty much all the features of the high end phones plus replaceable battery, micro sd card slot, amoled screen, etc. I think with the right sim card, you can use any windows phone on any network since they are true world phones.

I was listening to Windows Weekly on TWiT, and Paul Thurrot mentioned that the Lumia 1020 is lighter than the 920, and that the lens "bulge" doesn't extend that far out from the device (unlike the PureView 808). It's also protected by Gorilla Glass, so it you can safely rest the phone on a desk or table. The 920 is pretty heavy for a smartphone (though not uncomfortably so in my experience) so the change is welcome while still fitting a crazy high resolution camera module in there.

I'm trying hard to not want this phone, but the more I hear about it, the more I think this is absolutely the perfect fit for me rather than carrying around a DSLR or MILC and a smartphone.

I just bought a 928 on Verizon, won't be switching anytime soon. Part of that purchase was based on the assumed 1020/AT&T exclusivity.

Hopefully Nokia keeps this idea around as a niche product and Verizon gets one in a year or two with faster shot to shot times.

Would be nice to just have Lumia 920 (or whatever, I do like my 928) on all carriers like iPhone/Galaxy S4 etc.

finally a great camera on a smartphone. For so long the Nokia 808 is the only phone worth carrying on a long vacation.

32 gig is plenty especially with today's available cloud services.
If I was on vacation with this phone, I'd rather rely on cloud to backup rather than SD cards.

This.
I was seriously bummed when Nokia didn't add a micro slot to the 920 but with Skydrive I've found it unnecessary. I take dozens of pics per week and stream gigs of music with ZERO issues. Removable media is quickly becoming irrelevant.

This is why I added the "for me" part in my statement. I don't like only keeping 50 images on my phone, and I would rather not rely on cloud backup. In fact, I would rather a company make a phone with 128GB built-in. Yeah, that's right, 128GB built in.
